Hi all, a complete newbie here!

I moved from the town to this lovely bit of Gloucestershire back during Covid times, and we have bought a small farm smallholding

naturally, as everyone else round here, I wanted to get into shooting, both Shotgun to join in with the social network, and also rifle to help with livestock protection.

In all, its take just over 16 months, but finally the grants have been approved.

I have been out this weekend and picked up my shotgun, and have ended up with a semi-auto Beretta a400 excel, so quite happy.

Next on the list will be the rifles, I have a .22 for general plinking, practice and rabbits, and also a .223 for the foxes etc - both with moderators.

So time for lots of reading now, and getting to know some of you guys....

Thanks

Jim

Welcome Jim,

Another Gloucestershire lad here, it's a nice area. I'm a little south of Stroud. By chance I was offered a nice Sako in .223 a couple of days ago - not something I need at the moment but could be an option for you if you like the look of it.

You won't go wrong with a .223. Plenty of foxes and muntjac around here, the roe don't generally cause too much trouble and fallow are patchy depending on where you are.

Welcome Jim,

Fairly local to you ( Forest of Dean) and I have permission in Gloucester 👍🏼

Won’t go wrong with a CZ for your .22 and a Howa or tikka in .223

Yes, FOD here too, and just thinking of all of those options.

I like the CZ and the Howa, and I spend a lot of time in Finland, so may even bring a Tikka back home next time I am over there.

For some reason they have limited my rounds on the .223 to only 40, which I am a bit annoyed about, so will try for something more sensible...

Thankyou, and by all means, send the details over, I have not really narrowed my choices down yet, but would like to go for rifle, mod and scope as a pre-setup kit as its my first....

FOD here, so just over the river from you

Welcome to the site.
As a relative newbie in the grande scheme of things myself, I can say with total honesty that this site WILL help you.
There’s always somebody that has experienced the problem you post and always a handful of people willing to help.

Good luck with your shooting.
