Phone call from a 01268 (Basildon Essex) number claiming to be from the ENT department wanting to confirm my date of birth etc!
Well spoken female voice sounding very genuine who had a hint of a wobble when I told her I had no interest in Basildon ENT!
Her reply was to say " thank you I will let your consultant know"
Day later mobile ping's a text with a "Scam Call Warning" wanting me to confirm my details in a appointment form!

****ING people you could pass one in the street and never know!

Time they replaced 'DOB' with 'Memorable Date' for all applications. One can always change their memorable date but not DOB. Once they have the DOB, they use it for other fraud purposes.

Try getting something like 'Truecaller' or simiar installed, so that you get a warning in most cases when you pick up the phone. Stay safe.

I block numbers all the time as the calls come in a few then nothing.

The thing is that lass with have friends family kids be head of the PTA and no one would know what she does apart from a job working from home.

I just don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognise, I suppose it's hard if you run your own business but I don't anymore so like I said I just don't answer, If it's important they will always leave a message

As above I won't answer calls from anyone I don't know or an email without my name in the heading. I figure if they know me there leave a message most if not all troll number generated scam calls move on and once they list is done it may poll around again as there waiting for a connection vie there generated call management systems to pass on to one of there scammers .
There looking for your mac in some cases they can piggy back and hit you accounts .
O2 and there connecting providers have been hit hard over the past year from scammers.

There is a flip side to this unfortunately..... When I worked in Hospital(s), we often had to get in touch with family/relatives/friends in a hurry - often the Hospital number would show up as a 0800 number and be ignored. Even worse was trying to reach someone who had a call bar on the phone and any unrecognised numbers didn't get through and you couldn't even leave a message.
Thankfully, we managed to get messages through most of the time, but if we were really stuck, we had to try and get a Police message out which could cause no end of anxiety...

I was sat in a telephone exchange and a call came in on our office number telling me, in a heavy New Delhi accent, that he was from BT technical support and my router was being hacked but he was going to help me. When I finished laughing I explained that I was BT technical support and he’d really picked the wrong number. Who knew that English as a second language training included so many swear words 🤭😂

I remember sending the police round to a patients house as they wouldn’t answer their phone. Apparently the nhs number was suspicious. The good news was we had a kidney transplant for her…

I got a text yesterday saying " Dad my sim card has been blocked " no kids here either.
Had a wonderful chat with an Indian fella the other day he was adamant I could get a upgrade phone deal kept him going for a while before wishing him fair well.
It's disgusting how good they can be with their scams on the vulnerable

2016 I had a contract working offshore Bombay/Mumbai, the taxi driver who collected me from the airport was very pleased with himself pointing out all the nice shiny new high-rise offices

These scammers are using Mobile numbers 😒
Agree with the hospital I'd now you just can't return but you do have xyz hospital called you today.

We gave up our BT landline a few years ago because it was very unreliable due to poor infrastructure and bad weather, we went to a Vodafone mobile as our house phone. Yesterday I received a call from a mobile number I did not recognise. A pleasant female voice told me she had just missed a call from my number as she was driving, and had replied to the number showing on her phone. The only snag was I don't know who she was and had not called her. We chatted for a few minutes and came to the conclusion it was possibly a number spoofing scam attempt that happened to spoof my number. Like most people I have had many scam calls over the years but this was clearly not an attempt at me, there was no attempt to engage me in conversation with any of the usual guff these people try on. In my experience these malicious calls and emails began when BT moved some customer support functions to India, BT numbers and email addresses were plagued with scam attempts for years and resulted in the loss of mine and many other people's business.

I rarely if ever, enter my number on line or give it for that matter. I broke a couple of weeks ago and entered it on Microsoft and Macafee when I bought a new lap top.

I have been plagued with all manner of calls since then… feckers
