For sale is my trusty stalking bus.
Nissan Xtrail 08 plate, grey, sport expedition, 198k miles, manual, 4x4, 2litre diesel, 171bhp, tow bar and electrics fitted.
SatNav, panoramic sunroof, reversing camera, keyless entry, cruise control, all in working order.
Fitted with Yokohama Geolanders all round with plenty of life left in them.
Has started every time without fail.
Only two advisories at last MOT, which is valid until October 2025:
- Offside Rear Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i)).
- Central heat shield loose.
At last MOT, I changed the other rear suspension arm, new discs and brakes all round. It also had a new EGR valve when I bought it.
I have owned this car for 3.5 years and it has never wanted for anything. In return, it has never let me down. Did a 1,000 mile trip to Scotland on the reds in February without missing a beat. I don't do many miles so always feed it with premium diesel.
Full dealership SH up to 150k miles. Then independent up to 185k miles when I bought it and I have kept that up. It's had two minor services and one major in my ownership, although the book is not stamped as I have had it done locally. I will provide garage details for anyone who wants them.
It is excellent for stalking when serious off-roading is not needed, although it handles itself pretty well. It's like a van with the rear seats folded and easily fits my jetsled in with dog crate alongside, plus all my other gear. Loading deer alone is easy because the load area is flat and not too high off the ground - I got a 80kg fallow in it with one hand once (after I tried to cut the thumb off my other one!). It has a drawer in the back which is great for holding bits and bobs.

Bad points:
- the air con does not work. I regassed it a few months ago and it worked for a week or so, then gave up again. Heaters work fine.
- the drivers window switch sticks, but with a little TLC it has always worked.
- ever since I have owned it, if you boot the accelerator when it's cold it feels like the traction control is kicking in which, after getting my mechanic to pull it apart, could be what's happening as he found nothing wrong. It's not noticeable if you don't drive like a hooligan and probably wouldn’t notice on a test drive, but I’m being honest!
- the front seats are a bit rough but I sorted that with some £20 seat covers from Halfords. Bodywork is good for age and mileage, but not flawless.
- it developed a coolant leak a couple of weeks ago. Radweld has fixed it and it hasn’t lost a drop since. Again, no need to mention and a dealer wouldn’t, but prefer to be open.

And that's it, which for something of this age and mileage is a short list!

There is plenty of life left in this well cared for truck yet. Only selling because it was only ever intended as 'proof of concept' of having and justifying a dedicated stalking truck, but I ended up keeping it. It has worked so well that it now gets used to ferry the kids around with bikes, camping, etc, so am after something smarter and bigger. This will suit someone else who is where I was 3 years ago.

Back up for sale and can be driven away. I’ve been using it daily since putting radweld in with no issues. Collecting its replacement this weekend - a newer xtrail! Everything else fell short of it in some way. IMG_2205.webpIMG_2206.webpIMG_2207.webp
