Nonsense on the upcoming machete ban

I think the “offensive weapon” is only in the context of location - having it in hand in a Tesco’s car park would constitute an offensive weapon, having in your hand while up a tree in a field installing a highseat - I’d be happy to defend myself in court if they tried to say it was an offensive weapon!

There is some logic involved isn’t there…
I run a bushcraft and survival school and look after a 100 acre woodland. I have a pick up truck with my company branding on it. Few years back got pulled up on my way home from a weekend in the woods, my trail lights weren’t working. Ever such a nice copper said it could be a fuse or loose connection so offered to help have a look as had many miles of dark, country roads to get home. Told him I had a boot full of knives, axes, saws, machetes and other green woodworking tools as well as archery gear and about 10 air rifles…
He said, well it’s bloody obvious what you do for a living and why you have the gear, so unless I was planning to rob a petrol station or something on my way home it was all good.
Turned out, did have a loose connection too lol.
As others have said it’s all about context and locations etc

It has two sharp points, but does not have more than one hole in the blade, no not a Zombie knife, just an offensive weapon!
Over 8 inches long , fine and serrated edges , multiple sharp points , writing on the blade related to violence

Very much falls under the latest idiocy.

I read it that it has to have all of I,ii,&iii and any one or more of a-d ? So although I would agree from looks it is a style of zombi knfe, it doesn't actually fit the description.

No sharp pointed end, the definition for point given in the guidance being an angle of less than 90degrees. So theoretical not banned but up to you to be sure of that.
Post #2 quoting the government definitions gives the requirement as being a sharp point at an angle greater than 90 degrees. The accompanying examples from the government add to the confusion.
As a simple matter of fact, a point with an angle greater than 90 degrees is not sharp - it is obtuse.

Governments nowadays have a near endless list of items and substances they want banned.
The legislation is already draughted, all thats missing is the event which will create the wave of public outrage and anger which can be manipulated to race the relevant act through parliament with all party support and minimal discussion.
Which is exactly what’s happening in this case, a poorly draughted law to ban certain badly defined blades is being placed on the statute books without discussion or consideration. The fact that the implements being banned had nothing to do with the tragedy being used to justify the ban is not to be mentioned.

On Pigeon Watch a member is suggesting that his late father's machete will become illegal.

No doubt the person has read too much local newspaper nonsense. So here's the UK GOV website.

I didn't realise the holes in blades were so deadly. Might try making holes in bullets.

Sorry i would read that again if i was you.
It definitely falls under that description.
Over 8 inches with 1 or more of the following features yadah yadah

Basically , that knife.

We all know it is a zombi / fantasy style knife, but it still doesn't meet the criteria as it does not have a sharp pointed end from the gov description of sharp.

If you ony take one or two features from i-iii, a 7" blade divers knife with a point fills cutting edge and sharp pointed end. Add saw back it becomes banned but isn't because it doesn't meet the length requirement.

I still think despite the length being greater than 8" the lack of a "sharp point" excludes it from the ban.

Personally, I wouldn't want one though.

I love Britain, it has to be at the top of the list for backwards thinking flukwits in charge country ever.
I give it first prize every year, heck, it can have the next ten on credit FFS.
Try Western Australia, they take it to a whole new level!

You’re talking about a different knife .
