That deck rail looks suspiciously like one I've seen on Canadian Gunnutz a number of times over the years lol . Did you sell that 9X57 that you had posted ? I was thinking about buying it until I tore the front differential out of my truck while hunting , that curtailed my firearms purchases for a while .

Yes, thats my deck. A nice quiet spot behind the house, surrounded by trees. Good for photos for about 6 months of the year. The rest of the time it is covered with ice and snow.
Not sure which 9x57 you are referring to. A model S? That one is no longer for sale. I do have a Model C 9x57 for sale right now.
By the way, I'm from rural central Alberta—Red Deer area.

Steel buttplate on bottom one? Never seen that, must be fitted due to a cracked original?
Worlds best rifles, you’re lucky to be able to find them. They were under contract here, so all got mangled by Rigby and others before hitting the market

Those Lyman ( model 35 ) receiver sights mount on the bolt release , no drilling and tapping required , the rifles can be returned to original in a few minutes ................... they're also worth more than a decent used rifle . I'd love to get my hands on one .

Speaking of CGN earlier . I noticed your WTB ad for original Mauser butt - plates . I may know where a few are , I'll get back to you . You never know , if I don't get raped by my mechanic , I might take a drive down highway 2 , drop off the butt plates and buy your 9X57 while I'm at it .

People fit the Lyman 35 peep sight to Mausers precisely because it does not require any drilling and tapping or any other permanent modification.
It just clamps over the bolt release. And yes, it is an expensive sight. I have bought entire rifles just to get the sight and remove it.
The steel buttplate came standard on the Mauser Model M. It has a trap that opens to reveal two holes in the stock, one for a spare cartridge and one for a take-down cleaning rod.
The Model S has a horn, hard rubber, or plastic buttplate with one of the early or later (Banner) Mauser trademarks (see photos.)

Sorry. To clarify, I meant that I was originally from Central Alberta. I'm in New Brunswick right now. However, my oldest son and his family live in Alberta on the old family ranch site and he's a gun collector. He would be more than willing to buy some Mauser buttplates for me. Thanks. Sincerely, Rob

Don't get me wrong , I love a good road trip , but the Wife might not take kindly to me driving to the Maritimes to pick up a new rifle ....................... I'd do it , but I might not survive the trip lol . If I get the butt-plates , I'll drop you a PM on CGN .
