Old perazzi thoughts

Hi all, I was gifted an old 1978 perazzi mx8 the other day, hasn't been shot in decades and a little rusty - just a bit of rust on barrels - relatively short barrels (28in?) with slitted ports in the muzzle and I reckon very open chokes. Maybe a skeet gun? Wood isn't anything special and stock too short - but I can make that work. I tested it to see if it worked and both barrels went off at once - probably needed a clean!

So - does anyone know if this would be a skeet gun? Any ideas to make it game worthy? Would steel buck the need for tighter chokes? If its not steel proofed, should I be concerned about putting steel through it?!

It's a lovely action, would be nice to make it work.

Thanks

Perazzi did make skeet gun barrels with the ports as you describe. The original choke constriction will be marked on the breech end of the barrels. The odds are it being a skeet gun.

The fashion for longer & longer barrels is exactly that - a fashion - not a necessity.

As regards suitability for steel shot - perhaps ask BASC as they seem to think they know everything.

Barrels are probably 27 1/2 which was standard for 70s and 80s.
Ported for skeet.
Not sure if it's worth getting Teague chokes fitted? They will let you know if it will go through as HP steel on the re-prof.
Barrels on Perazzi do tend to rust, mine used to turn orange when I went out on the estuary, which was a bit of a shock the first time.
Drop out trigger unit? Push the safety tang as far forward as it goes and pull down on the rear of the trigger guard.
Stock comes off using a longreach 5mm allen key, on fleabay for £14
Bondhus Hexagon/Hex/Allen Key T Handle XL 300mm 12" Extra Long 3mm 4mm 5mm 8mm.
Apart from that, not bad guns if you keep them serviced.

Get it a good service especially if doubling. Someone like Dan at Bromley and sons can properly reblack the barrels and action making it look like new and less likely to go orange.

27 1/2” Skeet gun by the sounds of it. The original choke will be stamped on the chamber end, and if your shooting normal pheasants etc Skeet and or 1/4 would be ok
