One duck for supper

I took my three boys to clays this afternoon which was great fun. On the way back we stopped to check out some wet ground. Despite our entourage being 6 strong (including the two dogs) plus a herd of cattle we used the small bumps and long reeds to creep right into some wild mallard and teal. I dropped the first mallard my bead found and missed the second shot once I spotted the teal and failed to take the duck’s line. One is plenty to pluck and the boys to have roasted tomorrow.

I didn’t have time to pluck so just took the breasts and a leg off. Served pink the boys described it as excellent. The duck was eaten too quickly to photograph. As it didn’t go far so was topped up by salmon and then corn on the cob. Basically an indoor barbecue. As the boys sayid this weekend, I’m not the best mummy but I make a good daddy.

They grew corn and tomatoes this year, although this wasn’t from their crop. They want to repeat next year and catch the salmon and have it all their own produce.
