One for the 20B Hushpower users.

With a licence on the way for a new 20B Hushpower Pump, I'm hoping those of you who use one can put me on the right track for cartridges! 20B fibre carts are difficult enough to come by in Ireland so I may have to special order in bulk, so any help in choosing proven carts before I commit would be appreciated!

My reading so far leads me to believe that the Subs aren't worth it, so Ill be looking at standard load carts with my primary quarry being crows. Can't use crow decoys without a licence here so shots would be at varying distances, the quieter the better but don't want to sacrifice too much pattern/power for noise reduction.

I used Fiocchi GFL20 28g 6 in mine before I sold it, worked very well on crows and pigeons alike. Sound wise they are on par with any other non subsonic 20g load.

Lyalvale Supremes also performed well.

I've sold mine, but I never found it to be particularly cartridge fussy. It's a pump after all. Never thought of it as particularly range limited either, compared to say a 12bore. Place barrel in the right spot, it dropped. Honestly the biggest challenge with Hushpowers is your mount and swing. If you use it all the time, great. But occasional use will require some practice at home.

Maybe start off with what you can get locally, cartridge wise? Subsonics do make an audible difference, but I suspect by the time you're 100m away the 'report' will be much the same.

Good luck getting near crows without decoys. I have done it, 'ambushing' them in a field full of black silage-wrapped bales - with a 12bore. Was quite fun but hardly made for much of a dent in numbers.

I mainly use eley hi-flyer fibre, quiet and work well. They’re multi choke but come with a full choke and throw a very tight pattern. I fitted a rail and red dot sight which made it much easier for me. The receiver is pre drilled and tapped on the 20 gauge mossberg.

I love my 20g hushpower

I dont run subs through mine, I got it for shooting crows and us 32g of 5 shot and its capable of dropping them at 50yrds if I do my part

I mainly use eley hi-flyer fibre, quiet and work well. They’re multi choke but come with a full choke and throw a very tight pattern. I fitted a rail and red dot sight which made it much easier for me. The receiver is pre drilled and tapped on the 20 gauge mossberg.

Pretty sure Saddlery told me it was half choke when I bought mine, will look next time I take the end off.

Have a picatinny rail bought, and Saddlery Gun room threw in a 1/2 choke as well so I may start of with that initially!

It doesn't thankfully so I can build a pattern as I go (reluctant to take up space in the freezer with dead crows), It's surprising how well a single well placed dead Grey crow will bring them in tho!

We can use imitation decoys under licence, however they don't seem to give these out to easily. Well at least not to me when I applied

No worries David, I'm in the South. Not sure about NI legislation but all birds are protected here under the 1976 Wildlife Act. The Irish Gov then issues an annual derogation which allows for the shooting of certain species and dictates how and when the can be shot. Ducks, Pigeon, and Geese can be hunted with decoys but Crows cant.
