What are you using at the moment for your muntjac roe and fallow? Thanks guys, was hoping someone would say the Portland 90. Have you both used the 90 on fallow with success?
I never had as good a knife as the Portland 90 the last fallowThanks guys, was hoping someone would say the Portland 90. Have you both used the 90 on fallow with success?
Hi Tim,What are you using at the moment for your muntjac roe and fallow?
Fine, I have a few in the knife bag but will use the same for muntjac to reds, I like the SM 120 but use a tripe knife as the big stuff mostly going on the truck hoist and reds/big fallow I split the ribs first with a knife I modified for my self.Hi Tim,
I am using an Alan Wood stretched trout and bird. It has a blade length of about 4 1/4 inches. Great for the fallow but I personally (perhaps it’s my knife skills) find it a bit unwieldy on the smaller roe and munties.
Just wondered what people’s thoughts were on how small you can go on the fallow
Cheers
Darren
but you will turn to a saw for a big set of fallow ribs.I use a P90UL on fallow and it’s awesome. Not used on munty yet but am sure it will work just as well. Only use it for the gralloch though as do everything else at the larderThanks guys, was hoping someone would say the Portland 90. Have you both used the 90 on fallow with success?

What are you finding unwieldy about your current knife? If it is unzipping you could just keep your knife and spend £20 on an Outdoor edge Zip blade.Hi Tim,

But if you want a new toy........That's an entirely different matter

You could probably just poke your finger through a munty diaphragm and once you've pulled pipes/heart/lungs out (guts already out of cavity I assume) you could always tidy up the diaphragm once the carcass is empty? I'd certainly recommend the Outdoor edge unzipping knife - cheap as chips and particularly good on roebuck in the summer when it doesn't take long at all for the stomach to gas up.Hi Keith,
Yes I guess it’s mainly the unzipping. Perhaps too disconnecting the diaphragm on a small muntie with a 4 1/4 inch knife. I’m can do it, just feels like something smaller that I can almost keep my finger on the tip of would be nicer. I’m sure it’s just my knife skills and more practice would help![]()
