Optics for a 30-06 advice please

Hi guys,
I'm gonna be needing some glass for the 30-06 coming my way and am not sure what level of optics I need to be saving for?

I will be shooting no further than 150 yds for starters and have a nice old Jap Tasco 3-9x50 with a 30-30 reticle if it's the same tube diameter as the rings. Would this handle the recoil ok to get me going as it's a nice clear scope but was originally on an FAC air rifle from 20 years ago.

If not what would you suggest without breaking the bank?

Cheers

150yds?

6x42 Swaro, Schmidt or similar
8x50/56 if you really must!

its a point a shoot rifle at point and shoot distances.

A 7x or 8x is a pretty good general deer stalking scope. However 30/06 is the ultimate general purpose rifle, and that needs a variable. If the cash is available, I would go with a Swaro 1.7-10x42. MacLeod has non illuminated versions for under £900.

Have had a Bushnell 3-9X50 on mine for about 5 years now been to Africa and 4 seasons hind and stag stalking in Scotland as well as the usual Roe Fallow . Bright light , no light first thing in the morning and last knockings. The only shots missed were the ones I messed up great scope. If I were you spend the cash you save on stalking. Just because its cheaper dosent mean its no good.

If you are going to buy a scope make sure it has a 1" tube, 30mm rings are nearly impossible to find to fit a BSA I think Bewsher sold a set on Ebay last year for £150

Ahhh actually it's not difficult to modify rings fort eh ZKK/CZ 550 to fit the BSA actions of the Hunter/Regent/Majestic and 1st pattern Monarchs.

Also Lynx/B-Square still make them I think you will find as do Apel.

Thanks for the advice chaps the idea is to keep things as cheap as poss for the time being so unfortunately £900 is a no go for a scope!!!

I can see the lr going back up for sale to fund some glass instead of a rifle, lol!!!

What about my old tasco in the short term, would it handle the recoil without damage?

Cheers

well my £50 Nikko Stirling handles the .270 without a problem so I don't see why not

sharp way to find out!

Cheers guys that's refreshing to hear as I have 2 Nikko Sterling Gamekings on my rimmies and I really like them!!

Again SD has come up trumps though and Biker1 has offered to loan me a Meopta 6x42 til I get sorted!!
