Optilock Inserts Question

Afternoon all,

I am new to Optilock rings, and just picked up a Sako 75 which has 30mm rings with the inserts. I need to move the scope backwards in the rings as it’s not quite right at the moment.

As the mounts probably haven’t been off in around 20 years I’m a little worried about the inserts when I take the off.

Has anyone had an issue with the inserts being perished or damaged when removing and am I better to buy a new set before I risk taking them off?

Cheers,

Maggots.

The issue for me is usually that the crappy screws in the rings have seized up and the heads disintegrate while Trying to get them loose. Had this happen more than once…..

Rings won't perish as they are made of hard plastic, just make sure you have a good fitting allen key to slacken the mounts.

Am I missing something? If all you need to do is move the scope in the rings, you won't be removing the plastic inserts from the tube so won't have any chance of damaging them.
