Jesus,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just Jesus......Mary and the Wee Bloody Donkeys too.............
I'm going to keep this brief as no doubt no one gets to the end.
Wanted something different than my normal roe stalking, so booked with Trevor to head down to Norfolk to try and pick up another of the 6. My main focus was either a CWD or a Munty.
I booked 3 outings, a day an a half on the usual expectation of going on an "armed ramble" and then picking up an animal over the weekend in justification for the trip.
I'm not a trophy hunter, and medals don't get me excited, settling for a "fair representation" of the species is my aim in my stalking and having the "memory of the experience" is more important - a bit like losing your virginity........although I hope my stalking is better than that...........and it lasts longer.
First session was a high seat job, plenty of animals seen but no chance till right at the end of the light due to the distances, CWD and Munty showing at around 300m, don't care what you say, Im not shooting at that distance. A doe and kid came out at around 90m and was taken.
2nd session was a walk and stalk across wonderful flat fields and ditches. Oh how my knee sang at this wonderous event. Plenty of CWD seen, 1 missed shot - went low. Then 2 beasts taken in space of 5 mins. The first being a representative buck. The other was apparently the biggest CWD the keeper had seen, - which made me worried when I got the call when it has been picked up thinking I was in for a big spender with a gold medal............... due to the field lay out we couldn't get to the second one without a long walk so a quad pick up was done later, beast was neck shot from about 125m. Thankfully this BEAST turned out to be a doe. Phew.
More were seen on the walk out, but I had taken 2 so that would do for me.
3rd session was a woodland mooch and wait, another munty taken after an hour lying in wait across a ride - light was starting to go and I was told to check a couple of fields before packing myself up. I bumped another munty on the walk out, typical........ Then scanned across the fields with the thermal and thought - best watch out for the horses in that field............... another look across the other field and back to the "horses".
Nope, they are not horses...................Those are 2 reds munching away. Now this is when the little hunter on the one shoulder goes YAY - and the other one goes NOOOOOOO.
Needless to say, Im easily lead, so I got a bead on the first red and took the shot, it ran a short distance 10m or so and dropped, the other wondering what had gone on stood for a while then ran off and then stopped. At this point the shoulder YAY said YAY YAY YAY YAY and having been out with a guy that wanted a red but only had the chance for the worlds smallest munty, I thougth If I shoot two he can have one.
So bang and that one went down too.
Having gone with the intention of doing 3 stalks for 1 animal, I had 2 red, 2 munty, 2 cwd. and the chance for a lot more......................Recon is possible to do 5 out of the 6 in norfok over a weekend......
If you are looking - give him a call......
