Stalker1962’s recent post re poo test made me think a gentle reminder was in order.

Gents of a certain age, please get your prostate checked.
I had no prostate symptoms but found it in time (just).
Simple PSA blood test from GP.
Don’t be fobbed off by the doc with guff about false positives as mine tried to (he was bloody shame faced when the results came in).

Big op a few years ago saved my life , yes there are lasting side effects, buy that did not stop me cycling J O’G to LE last year.

I also second this shout out to get checked. My neighbour got his checked as King Charles had highlighted nationally. His result was advanced prostate Cancer. On the back of his result I went and got tested, long story short I have localised Prostate Cancer. No symptoms and have started my treatment. Time on this planet is short enough, get Checked Guys Please.

Yes a big shout out guys “GET IT CHECKED “
I had the opp last June (22) an lm pleased to say
am now cancer free. I’m alive and kicking that’s all that matters. A simple blood test and your done 👍

I'm still over a decade away from hitting the heady heights of 55+ but have a history of Prostate cancer in the family, it killed my grandfather and made a try for my dad. I had multiple symptoms indicative of possible issues a couple of months back, enough to actually scare me, so filled in the online triage form for the GP, was in the Doc's office 1.5 hours later. ( Useful if your surgery has this option as you can explain all in detail without having to fight through the receptionists )

Various tests etc over the following week and then thankfully all clear, but certainly something that I have to keep an eye on anyway. I would say regardless of age if you think there is something amiss then get it checked, especially if it runs in the family.

As soon as I turned 50 , SHMBO was badgering me to have a PSA test. Not sure if I could have got one through the GP as no symptoms, but found a charity carrying out tests (free but donation to cover costs welcomed, and made) thankfully low / negative readings, but will do every few years to keep an eye on things.

I've got it, along with most of the elderly guys I know! The hardest part was getting it checked out in the very beginning, once you've jumped that hurdle it's not necessarily an easy road but you just get on with it.
As the nice nurse said to me, leave your dignity at the door when you go for the" procedures". I've found that the people from the NHS have been unfailingly kind, sympathetic and highly professional.

Was diagnosed with stage one prostate cancer last year, found purely by chance after a blood test for back pain (actually brought on by impact from collapsing airseat on telehandler but that's another story) the doc sent me for an mri which showed some shadowing of sorts so they got me in for a biopsy (not nice but it's the only way to make certain). This showed I had a very small amount of cancer on the prostate, small enough that it hasn't been deemed necessary for any treatment, just quaterly psa bloods and mri scans.
Touch wood nothing has changed but I get a phone call from my consultant next month as I had my bloods and scan recently. I hit the big 50 this year and wouldn't of thought to be checked for it unless I had any symptoms!..

Get checked guys.... it's for your own good!!

I'm seeing one of my Colostomy Support Team members tomorrow for my annual (spelling!) follow up. I'll ask if blood tests include checks for prostate cancer. The digital rectal jobbie is no longer an option for me:doh:
The consultation has previously been followed by a CT scan, blood tests and a Colonoscopy. (There's fun  )

Glad to hear you are on the winning side. The blood test is simple but unfortunately interpreting the results doesn't seem to be. So there is a debate on what to do. Best to be informed though to make an intelligent decision rather than just leaving it to chance?
Cheers NullMac
A big shout it for the Surgeon
Dr Lorenzo Dutto . there’s one doc that knows his stuff. It’s a touchy subject amongst us guys.
The waiting on results and the what if !
Trying times to say the least. I was lucky no symptoms just tired, thaught l needed B12 injection a simple blood test a there you have it.
Advanced localised the sorest part was the transperinial biopsy as it was on the front of my prostate in behind the nuts with the needle :scared:

You get two choices Radio Therapy or surgery
a hard pill to swallow. If localised the surgery was my choice. / after radio therapy their not so keen on surgery ( it’s cooked to much scar tissue but they will if they really must).
So you get two bites at the cherry so to speak,
Surgery ! & then radio therapy if needed.

So yes all went well and it wasn’t my time
So l get a few more years babysitting the grandkids :thumb:
Thank God So chaps like l said get it checked

Happy Hunting, Buck.

50 I’m couple months and dad’s just been told today he’s got it …. So I guess I’d better get this PSA test done or look into it
Speak to you GP, inform him of your dad's situation, they should make you priority. 🤞 Hope there's nothing adrift for you.
I had blood sample taken today at the follow clinic relating to my bowel cancer, consultant is requesting PSA check from my blood sample. He also requested a Poo test kit be sent to me.

I had a text last week asking me to make an appointment for annual blood test and review, as I'm in 'sniper alley' I requested they also check PSA levels
