Paedophile Ian Watkins murdered in prison.

The former front man of some pop group who was jailed for 29 years in 2013 for serious offenses against children has been murdered in HMP Wakefield by two other inmates.

The report from the chief inspector of prisons said: "Many prisoners told us they felt unsafe, particularly older men convicted of sexual offences who increasingly shared the prison with a growing cohort of younger prisoners."

Oh dear, what shame, couldn't happen to a nicer group of people - now thats what I call karma...
 
Meanwhile, in Jockistan, prisoners are having to make do with landlines in their cells instead of mobile phones, while they await their early release.

Apparently he has received brownie points from the other inmates.
 
He’s no loss to society and if it was an option should have just been put down at the guilty verdict

But , If a prison cannot stop inmates being murdered it is not being run correctly. There are plenty prisoners who need protected and things like this prove that the operators of the jail can’t do their job properly.

It is (of course) a terrible topic.

I posted this below on P/Watch.

His sentence was twenty plus years. Not "death" and that he was assaulted and killed shows may show that the staff have lost control of the establishment they are supposed to be overseeing.

That Watkins had been murdered, as will likely be the eventual charges laid, isn't the issue as such. It is that this demonstrates a failure of the prison authorities to do their job....the other side of which coin is the supposed radicalisation to "extreme islamification" of youth entering the adult prison system.

For every failure to "protect" a Watkins from the attentions of other inmates how many failures are there to protect young men from the prison mullahs?

I won't lose sleep over Mr Watkins but over the other matter? Prisons have long been "schools for crime". Now are they, as some claim, schools for extreme radicalisation of vulnerable young men?

For balance, I generally enjoy your contributions but what makes this thread less valid than a rant about dog**** in bags or rubbish on the fells? If people feel a need to express their anger or horror at the subject of the thread so what?

I did say, I hated myself for posting on this thread...

You are right to call me out on it, and I applaud you for doing so.

I have indeed posted on "dog shite" in bags and rubbish on the "fells". I have never posted "glorifying' the (apparent) murder of perhaps one of this country's most despicable paedophiles.

Perhaps I am wrong to differentiate between the topics?

You may well be correct. Perhaps I am a hypocrite for suggesting otherwise?

I just think the site is richer without such threads?

My revulsion for this man's crimes, and for the (apparent) circumstances of his death, are no less felt than those who feel the need to demonstrate it by posting their revulsion on the internet.

I hope you can understand (if not agree) with the dichotomy.
