Panacur

Very well put apache I was intrigued as what you said was articulate and informed .
flub isn't cheap and surely as a VET you would have some idea as to cost . The last time I inquired I think it was about an extra £100 a tonne to add to the poult pellets ,something has to be done to make a legal substitute to panacur as I and many other keepers don't want to break any laws .
Hopefully the vetenary world will come up with something .....I won't hold my breath !
Kind regards

Apache
I would not know how many 9-10 weeks old will make a tonne
but I hav a feeling yes I would guess at it would be about that per pen if I was to hazard one
the big problem is a food related medication like flubenvet only works if the birds are eating ... Birds that are wet and cold won't eat but do drink... Bit of sun on their backs do help with the appetite
but the big problem like I hav mentioned you can really only get treatment with a prescription which does take a few days and can cost a lot in lost bbirds as for sharing costs
i would need a full tonne of medicated to last the 7 days and it may leave a couple of bags incase of a further outbreak if not all pens needed it
But thank you for the informative reply

The VET world wont come up with anything...they can only prescribe those drugs that are approved for the condition being treated.
The drug companies wont pay for the testing (clinical trial, toxicity study, stability study etc etc etc) as the returns are insufficient.
It costs 10's of millions of pounds to take a drug from discovery to market...this is why rules are bent/broken. Dont think this applies to keepers alone, even governments turn a blind eye....do you think Acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) would pass todays new drug application process? NO...yet we all use it.

I appreciate Apache's position...and any other vet/GP.....but when the industry won't make the investment then what are keepers left with?

Stone - for use in pheasants and partridges no prescription required any more for Flubenvet in feed.

I can't obtain any premixes directly as you need to be a licensed feed mill (other than the disproportionately expensive 60g keeper pack) so have no idea on costs.
