I think they actually were coined ‘safari super’

As I might have mentioned before my cabinet is crammed full of true left-hand actions.
I've never fired a standard rifle (meaning a right-handed action) on purpose, but that doesn't mean these are of no interest to me.
Refer back to post #5 . . . in PH terminology all the 1200 models (which were .30-06 long-action length only I think) are 'Super', but 'Safari' denotes their African big game magnum calibre in .375 HH & .458 WM ( 80mm action length, and .532" bolt face).

The 1200 series aren't standard Mauser M98, but Santa Barbara actions which were made in Spain for Parker Hale.

Would that mean the scope mounts wouldbe different or the same as the M98?

No difference - large-ring Mauser action, so Weaver Nos. 45 & 46 mounts are standard.
I fitted these to my previous Heym SR20N models in LH too, which are push-feed modified Mausers.

Afraid not.
These are Weaver base-mounts, not Parker Hale which would be nos. 28 & 22.
There's a slot in these which the cross-bolt fitted into Weaver detachable top-mounts locks into.
PH rings are scarce, so that will give more options. There are 2 types of Weaver QD rings which will fit.

This is identical to my first stalking rifle - it was in such good condition when I bought it that I sold it on before I ruined it, but not before I floated the barrel by removing the pressure point in the barrel channel. It had also been modified to have a safety on the bolt before I bought it.

You are right, weaver bases not PH.

I had one in 30-06, one of the most accurate and forgiving rifles I have owned. My dad bought it for me - I still have the receipt, I wish I still had the rifle. I think it went in part ex for a Heym with a 6 power nickel scope in 7x57. At the time it was a mustard set up

I had one of these in 308 Norma Mag , a very accurate and powerful rifle ........................ the Moose didn't like it much though . Another one I should have kept .
I have seen a few kicking around for sale locally . One in 270W would make a good short grass prairie Mule Deer rifle , a cartridge that you are very familiar with .

white line spacers, montecarlo cheek, rosewood grip cap and fore-end tip.

1100s - no caps/schnable
Deluxe - skip line chequering

Safari models had schnable fore-end and didnt come in MonteCarlo stock form

Super Safari was only available in magnum cartridges


In real terms there are examples out there with a mismatch of parts! Some had commercial receivers, some had notched military ones, some had stripper clip humps fully removed, some retained the slot!!
