Yesterday I agreed to buy on the German equivalent of the ebay gumtree site an RCBS chargemaster link powder dispenser for 95€ posted as they were 400€ when new. I did the as asked by the seller through paypal friends & family payment, off went the money then I went into my emails a few minutes later only to get a warning from paypal that that account had been suspended due to seeming dodgy goings on, so there you are I got scammed for the first time and there is now way to recoup the funds. Be warned.

Possibly. But PP is cracking down on F&F Payments as it’s costing them a lot of money where people, as you have, use it for purchases

Are PP friends transfers not protected?
Just remembered reading something about this a long time ago.

It's a sickening feeling, isn't it? Happened to me once, too. I'm doubly careful these days. Every PayPal transaction is done with a wee bit extra to cover the fee he I'm in the least bit suspicious. Sorry you were caught out

PayPal also don’t like firearms or shooting related sales. Some one reported their PayPal account being withdrawn after a sale on here recently.

the very reason i have had nothing to do with paypal for years now , it's a payment system not a government

Somethimes spending some time before payng scanning for the seller's in social and forum's gropup mase save you a bad loss. Also asking for personal documents and a life picture of the items may help. If you mind just share the id of this nasty person, would helps others or, at leaste, render his live e bit more difficoult. And yes unfortunately no parachute if money send to freinds&family. I think sice PP starting.

If you are scammed by a person you almost certainly won’t get that message from PayPal. Biggest scams is emails telling you that there is a problem with transactions. The scammers are getting very advanced and will reply as if they are responding from PayPal.

Never use a link from emails or texts it is used to hack your account.
Do not reply to emails or texts, same applies.
If you have done the above, change your passwords and contact PayPal (via the app or direct from their website) telling them what happened.

Always log in directly via browser or app.

Remember PayPal does not permit shooting related purchases and will block the account if suspected.

No. Friends and Family doesn't charge the payor or payee a fee so it is in effect a gift. So there's no comeback. Same coin but different side as folk asking if (as a seller) you'll declare a lesser value "for customs". As a old friend's late father said if a thing seems too good to be true it usually isn't!

when its too good to be true , it usually is.
Hmm. I recently ordered a model turbofan engine from a Facebook reel. Price was very reasonable (around £40) I've seen similar for sale at around the $1000 mark though 🤔 I'm beginning to wonder if I've been had, too. Luckily I've paid via PayPal standard terms so at least I'm covered. I'll be very disappointed if it turns out to an a con though

If they think you’ve had too many F&F payments for things that aren’t from frieda and family they’ll suspend your account.
Same as if you breach any of their other T&C’s.
They are a business after all
I’ve been buying and selling shooting related stuff including much traffic to and from USA since 2009 without a problem.
For me, it’s been by far the best/ easiest method of dealing with persons or companies abroad.
