One of my Secare deer stalkers in Uddeholm Vanax generation 3 powder steel. This steel is without doubt the most advanced steel available in Europe the technology used to make it as with Elmax is second to none.
Only made in very small quantities each you in Sweden as so expensive, most of that steel goes to specialist applications such as under the North Sea for oil pipeline flanges. Vanax SuperClean is a nitrogen-alloyed, powder-metallurgy stainless steel known for its exceptional corrosion resistance and high achievable hardness. Unlike many highly corrosion-resistant steels, it can be hardened to knife-grade levels, making it suitable for demanding cutting tools. Its fine, uniform carbide structure gives knives excellent edge stability, wear resistance, and toughness.
These qualities make Vanax especially popular for premium knives used in marine and hunting applications, the steel blank alone is more than many custom custom knives to purchase!
The edge on this knife was ground to .35 mm even before sharpening and honing, a clear indication of the strength and stability of the steel. Meticulously hand sanded to 1200 grit and with the addition of a secondary bevel of 18 degrees. This edge was then diamond polished to a mirror edge , it is far sharper than a standard Gillette razor and easily stropped backed to sharpness after use. Such an edge is only achievable due to the structure of a powder steel that has been sintered during its manufacturing process.
Such steels do need diamond or ceramic sharpening stones or systems when it comes to sharpening but there are some fantastic low cost systems available such as the Work Sharp systems from Monarch Country Sports here on SD, I cannot praise those systems enough. Such systems are also excellent for other steels which have been heat treated to high hardness ratings.
The handle on this knife took me along time to make as I sourced the wood from a specialist timber yard, dried it for two years, cooked in to dry it and then vacuum stabilised it and cast it in resin which I tinted.
Specs.
Vanax powder steel HRC62 with a cryogenic soak

First is the Vanax Edge on this blade next to a human hair, then a Gillette safety razor fresh out of the paper wrapping, a factory knife and finally one of my vinyl LPs showing the grooves in order to show scale.
