Pheasant field near edinburgh

I have a working dog (cocker) and need to expose her to game. We walk through fields where I've seen game, but not a guanteed flush. Does anyone know of gamekeepers near edinburgh that could help me.

This time of year probably help you out the same way you came in

Prime nesting season at the moment

You need to find a shoot which will let you help with beating when the next season starts. As others have said, this is not the time to be disturbing birds and there are other species beyond game you risk disturbing too. What is your background/experience with game shooting /working gun dogs?

Right now I'd suggest you work on recall training as that needs to be utterly bomb proof before going near live quarry (if you think it's ok, you're only just getting started), plus directional commands and on retrieval- get a dummy +/- launcher if you don't already have one.

When I was starting out a local keeper had a rabbit pen for dog training, stocked with rabbits that had been caught in a long line. £5 penalty per rabbit if your dog pegged one. This was a while ago mind. My dogs were steady to flush but the tight size better suited spaniels rather than the rangey quartering of an HPR.

I have one you can use, bit of a trip but lots of birds, however the pheasant shooting season in England traditionally runs from 1st October to 1st February. :tiphat:
