After reading the ranger thread and the rust problem with the UK luxes it makes me wonder wtf as my old lux is still with me after spending over seven years on the coast in Qld with numerous beach drives including barely covered sand flats splashing through everything.
She has no rust at all.
Do you have a particularly virulent salt? NO?
Is it a combination of air pollution/acid rain contributing?

Old girl at a shipwreck north of Noosa circa 2000 a trip of quite a few hours done often.
Btw she doesn't look like that anymore.

I think its down to the fact that it rains here almost every day and for about 1/4 of the year they spread rock salt on the roads.
And then the fact that car manufacturers are only interested in getting a vehicle past its warranty period and think a lick of crap paint is enough to protect the underneath.

Hi John

Is that really Vintage Tojo in the photo?

Add in today's obsession with " water based environmentally friendly " paint and there's your answer.
John more green bullschitt, water based paint gives as much protection to steel as a paper bag.
Don't want a car to last anymore build them to rot.
