Guys I want to load for 300PRC, I was going to use N570 as I have some already but Im worried about barrel wear. Any RS alternatives that might be better?

I'll be using the gun for Long range plinking, out to 1 mile, and using 230G Bergers.

cheers

Thanks Guys.. Could you let me know your load data via PM please, The reason i ask is I do have Quickload, but I also use GRT and P MAX. and the predicted results seem to vary a lot, (more than my 6.5CM) Oh I should also say I dont have the rifle yet, I should be picking it up from Mik Mac, in a couple of weeks.

Quick load is quite optimistic on the H2O capacity of the 300prc. I think it states 99gr capacity. When I measured virgin lapua brass it was more like 97gr so worth checking that to get true results.

Hi Folks.
I have just my 300prc from valkyrie.
I will be shooting it out to a mile plus.
Hornady 225 eldm for the closer stuff and 230 atips for the longer stuff.
I have run in the barrell using some n165 I had.
Now looking for the proper powder.
Choice of rs80, viht 568 and viht 570.
Which do I go for?
570 gives highest speed but is very dirty.
I am not one for must have the fastest speed.
568 designed for the likes of 300prc.
Seems to get good reports for long-range accuracy. Important to me. Measures out better than 570 ? But not a huge concern for me.
Better for me rather than outright speed
Now it's well known that vihtavuori book loads can be " altered" so to speak.
Rs80. Single based so possibly a bit easier on the barrel maybe. Are published swiss rs 80 loads pretty true?
I am thinking the 568 would suit me.
Any thoughts from experience?
Cheers

Keen to hear people's experience of RS. Running N570 under 245gr Bergers, but it is a wee bit manky, and very big kernels

Not a direct comparison but I’ve been running RS80 in a 300 Norma and was getting decent speeds but running into pressure at lower fill ratios. Just switched to RS76 and getting better speeds and higher fill ratios with less pressure. Standard 1:10 twist 26 inch Blaser barrel and got to 3020FPS with 225 ELDMs and minimal pressure but decided to back off a grain and settle for 937FPS with great accuracy and decent ES. RS76 seems to suit my set up a lot better although the barrel will probably be taking a little bit of a beating!

RS76 runs a lot dirtier than 80 though - shame it’s not a buxom wench!

RS76 gives the best performance of any of the powders in that range for me. It’s been used in barrels 26in to 32in and has the best speed without pushing pressure - and very good consistency. Kernel size is c0.04gr. I’m on a new barrel but 230 A-Tips running over 2950.

N570.N565. Or as said RS76
All gave me what i wished for out of the rifle but for me RS powders weren't around nr me so Stayed with N570.

Seems fine, I always clean my barrel every time I shoot, and to be honest I find the process quite cathartic so I'm not worried it it needs an extra scrub and of course have nothing to compare it against. Mik built the rifle, recommended/suggested N570 so that's what I use.
