powder storage

Here in Germany the requirement for BP is storage in a steel container (I did the relevant course 8 years ago to get the permission to obtain & keep license). I could not believe it as I had a BP UK permission earlier where wooden container was stated but the explosive expert doing the course confirmed steel as correct. So grenade building is allowed over here.

Do they insist you make the hinges out of flints too...?

Hahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!...
You have a wicked sense of humour Sir!!.. But I like it!

Liveonce - thank you for that nuance but since I am a holder of both and would, in common with the majority one feels) not 'reload' without any firearms (Sec 1or2 ) for which it is a sine qua non for reloaders NOT to need a storage container unless BP is involved.
In addition, without a manufacturers licence (and associated storage) anyone is not allowed to sell home made ammo, there can not be much incentive to reload unless one shoots the stuff ?

I’ve never been asked for my certificate when buying powder, primers yes, but not powder.
Indeed not all shops appreciate the changes that ER2014 introduced when it replaced MSER2005.
Kent Police did write to all RFDs in Kent informing them of the changes, in I think 2016!
problem is we have so many disjointed laws around shooting, the firearms act, the proof act, VCR bill, ER2014 and probably others.
The VCR act is the reason you need to show your certificate to buy primers for metallic cases , rifle or pistol and why they cannot be sold mail order.

indeed so long as the person shooting the home made ammo is not a terrorist or criminal and hence the control placed over buying smokeless powder in ER2014 Given it unlikely that either would have a FAC or SGC.

Going off topic but where in UK law exactly does it say you are not allowed to sell home made ammo? Not suggesting I would but this comes up from time to time as a topic.
For example you say without a manufacture licence anyone is not allowed.... yet ER2014 states you do not need a licence to manufacture small arms ammunition.

lots of grey in all this.

regards liveonce.

Think a terrorist would go for nitrate and C12 H22 O11 but I am absolutely sure one would not register if he held nitro or BP (either terrorist or criminal) and there is always the internet - that's a metal box to keep nitro powders in !

I am not sure of the precise legislation (Enfieldspares or Orion would know) but you can give (gift in current parlance) but you cant sell. I suggested that without a manufacturers licence (i.e. V large quantities held)

Happy to be proved wrong but I think the reason not to sell is more to do with product liability than any UK law a situation the industry is quite happy for us continue to believe.

Isn't the mix of fertiliser with a dash of diesel oil a bit more oomphy than the sweetened one then 'kes'??
Was a bit of a "lad" when much younger and mucked around a lot with things that go BUMP! in the night. Chlorate worked better with a sweetener option I discovered. Lots of destroyed underground wasp nests in my home area when I was a kid....

Extract from Firearms act 1968, part 1

3 Business and other transactions with firearms and ammunition..
(1)A person commits an offence if, by way of trade or business, he—.

(a)manufactures, sells, transfers, repairs, tests or proves any firearm or ammunition to which section 1 of this Act applies, or a shot gun; F1. . . .

(b)exposes for sale or transfer, or has in his possession for sale, transfer, repair, test or proof any such firearm or ammunition, or a shot gun, [F2or.

( c)sells or transfers an air weapon, exposes such a weapon for sale or transfer or has such a weapon in his possession for sale or transfer,].

without being registered under this Act as a firearms dealer.

Any use- I wonder if 'transfers' means 'gives' I assume not and I'm not a dealer anyway.

I like to keep the full recipe to myself but an oxidizer is necessary. I used to make sugar and fert bombs when I was a kid - lucky to still have both hands but there's a lot of dustbin lids somewhere, possibly in space !

Hahahahahaaaaaa!.. Good job we never got together in our erm... formative(?) years eh 'kes'??? Happy memories just dragged out of the deep, dark depths of my memories here now! Thanks for bringing them back to life in me mate!... 😋[emoji1360][emoji482]

Good times, I agree but je*** we did some daft stuff whilst young.
Dont start me on bonfire night ! We used to hide inside the bonfire to catch the lads from the next street who tried to set it on fire before the 5th !

Oh yes was that the sodium ...... weed killer but they spoiled the fun by putting a fire retardant in it, ended up with more retardant than week killer so was then not much good as a weed killer either.

Yeah!.. Damned retardant utterly killed our fun didn't it!,!? and I think you might be correct with the diminishing weed killing properties too cos my Dad stopped buying it around the time it became a 'thing'...

WE DID THAT TOO!! My God, talk about "parallel development".. Ha!.

And when Bangers really WERE BANGERS, with quite reasonable quality B.P. inside them (remember those thick, deep red 3-2-1s?..??) I used to buy as many as my pocket money would stretch to and break them up for their contents. Had a few quite decent bombs made from that direction to, ontop of the sweetened chlorate.. That came to an end when I utterly destroyed a farmer's (unused and derelict: Note!) chicken hutch. Man, that was a BANG! My Dad let a lot of my erm... 'Boyishness' go - he'd been a bit of a wild one occasionally too - but that event going viral over garden fences and in the local shops etc had me having to promise him to moderate my enjoyment of all things explosive.. He knew it was mainly me and I never did repeat that kind of event again, back to Wasp nest destructions which he thought acceptable for a lad of my burgeoning ingenuity.. Happy Days!

You should've seen my youthful experiments with "HEAT" rounds using copper sheet from old hot water cylinders & cast iron pipe...

Did you ever get the stand-off and cone shaped copper inserts designed well enough, with the explosive backer charge potent enough to get any real penetrative result with that 'Odders'?? Or am I thinking of a different type of anti-tank device here?
