I'm no good at writing English so I will copy down the answers I wrote in another thread which I think is is a great topic to talk about even if I live in another country, so the problem is and the experience quite similar, in Sweden uses many armor on their dogs when we have problems with many wild boars and, in some areas, wolves.
What I think you could talk about in this thread is proof vest and disadvantages, different brands experience.

Sorry, English is not my mother language and school years were not the highlight of my life so thanks to google translate.
Have read a lot about what is written about tracking in England and has not wanted to put me in because I live on the other side of the water in the north, but when I read about one who asked about protective vest, as is the question of me very close when I miss a good dog a few years ago when I tracked a deer, thought that i did not have a use for it then I do not tracked wild boar but in retrospect it became my dog and I was taken by an angry boar sow in the track line, she defended the deer that she started to eat at and attacked me, and my dog got so much internal damage so it died.
Advantage of the West: Good visibility of the dog on the hets.
In the dark good visibility if it passes a road as they often have good reflex
Protection of the antlers (Deer) Boar damage trees and sharp pieces that can penetrate the chest.
Disadvantage that one must not forget the problem of cooling the dog during the hot summer time it is possible to soak them before starting the work so it acts as a bit cold; the heat so must be considered, which would risk is greater.
If you've managed to read this far, I'd detached say one more thing and that is what makes you a sweiss hunter really good is that you never get to have such a big ego so you can not ask someone else or another breed check if they can find something that is not you have found if they do not find something nice, it proves that you have done everything right and extra checked everything. if they find try to to learn something about it.
Now, to finish with a few words I want to say something I usually think of when I have sweiss courses and that is that you can have intercourse with my wife, you may call me what you want But never speak ill of someone's dog or selection breed, whether you have breed-specific dog or mongrel or what club you are in, we must be able to work together in the woods to terminate an animal's suffering.
Sincerely a northern Swiss man

if someone wants to correct my possible spelling errors, it's okay:scared:

A friends tracking dog a big GWP has a pig vest from the USA (maker called Southern Cross). This is vented along the top of the back. It covers the front half on the dog put is not so long that when the dog cocks his leg for a pee he fills the jacket

problems in men pee in the vest is a disadvantage, but unfortunately necessary to safeguard peace. The solution is to go out with the dog before work seldom you see a dog working as urination advantage is that when the vest is the private part, the dog easy to get out of a lake if it goes through the ice, where the private part is gets stuck in the ice, drowning male dogs more often than women, but it is probably more common in Sweden than in England?
a bit uncomfortable but as long as you wash the West after each working day, I would rather protect my dog if the price is that I need to wash it, so I'll take it

Other than that jacket I am unaware of any others in the Highland's.

Anybody use them when tracking boar elsewhere in the country?

do not know how common it is with dog armor in England but in Sweden and Germany it is common and there are many good armor.
I think they may be better than those from the United States then this is made for our type of hunting they often hunts with many dogs that collaborates on a boar our dogs will meet the boar alone, and the pig will attack dog. many dogs, it's the opposite and wild boar will try to escape
in the United States easier protection more open when they have greater heat problems.

try to paste these words in a regular search engine and go on to see photos: hundskyddsväst

if it does not work, I'll see if I can find some different names since the problem that they are not sold in the UK Perhaps the solution is that, you become a group that can speak to any dealer and perhaps get a good price

I have a vest for my Kopov. Having a senior moment and can't think of the make. Buying a vest is a lot cheaper than having your dog sewn up. I know this from experience.

If you remember which manufacturer it is see if you can cut a deal to represent them in Portugal - there's a few dogs on the monterias that could do with one. ;)

(Although fishing line and the wife's darning needle would still be cheaper!). :D

A vest would be no good. What if they suddenly put on weight . All the dogs i saw there looked a bit under nourished. Must say those dog handler were a dab hand with the fishing line and darning needle.

Where I hunt, in swamps and big, wooded mountains, when using dogs, they do a lot of running. They also have to swim, though we keep them out of big water in the swamps because of alligators. Dogs are like candy to them.

Typically, there will be only about 4 or 5 dogs - scent hounds, sight hounds, and a small and quick catch dog - so the boar (or bear ) will stop running and pick a place to fight, with just enough dogs to keep it from focusing on one dog and killing it outright.

Look on Cabela's, for Hurtas.
Southern Cross Gear

http://www.hardcorehogdogs.com/Cut_Gear.html This Catch Dog is nice because it has no straps on the sides to catch a branch, tusk or claw.

I don't have any of these dogs; just hunt with friends, so I will have to ask their favorites.

It sure is, this is mine and the result of an injury out beating, this was a branch but one where the vet didn't get a large lump out. This was the second operation and she had another afterwards when they finally found the lump of branch

As with the responsibility of tracking and dispatching our wounded animals the responsibility of protecting our dogs should be high on our agenda too. I've stalked both here and abroad for a few years now and a couple of years ago took a real interest in tracking dog's myself. Although my main love is gundogs trained for game shooting I took it upon myself to put together a range of products that aid us stalkers with dogs and within that range exists protective tracking vests.
