As soon as the variation comes back for my Creedmoor, and Ive acclimatised and worked a load up, Im quite interested in getting into precision rifle, does anyone do this ?

It might well not be till next year that Im ready to compete, but Ive already started looking at events, and they are all a fair distance from Notts ?
I can get out to 5-600 yards on one of my permissions to practice safely, but I was just interested if anyone local ish knew any proper ranges that arent half a days drive away ?

Thorpe cloud have a 500 yard range , but it looks like it may be a bit restrictive on what days it can be used, I certainly dont mind joining the NRA to do so.
Diggle sounds similar.
Bisley I dont know much about , what is it like , is it accessible for a novice 1000 yard shooter ?

I particularly like the idea of the open comps at the RMPRA in Devon , and SIS at Eskdalemuir, but both of these are 5 + hours away.

There used to be a military range at, or near Oswestry. There also used to an accessible range near the Wirral in Lancs, again military, with ranges up to 500yds. There will be a limited number of 1000 yd ranges available simply because maintenance doesn't justify them.
I would give Valley arms a ring (Ruthin) they include range membership if you buy a rifle there. There is an indoor range at Bangor but 100 yds only max.

I'm doing PRS type shooting at my place but only with .22LR

My set up doesn't lend itself to proper centre fire PRS

However as already mentioned there are a few offering such comps - RMPRA in Devon/Cornwall , and SIS at Eskdalemuir

Additionally there is the PRL that will now shoot at Bisley as well as Orion in mid Wales

There is a new range just set up near Plymouth which offers shooting out to a mile - I'm going to have a go there for some of my practice

There are a few PRS shooters on here that shoot SIS at Eskdalemuir like me and doubtless there will be some who do the RMPRA shoots. You will find more PRS participants on UK Varminting. Other venues include Orion and WMS in Wales that may be closer. In my opinion PRS is the finest marksmanship discipline to develop skills that are essential when stalking.

Suggest you look closely at service providers and who is behind each

Some are not transparent and try to undermine others creating false videos with their stooges

Having shot several comps over a number of years id recommend biting the bullet and travelling to the venue

I’d certainly recommend SiS at Eskdalemuir, Precision Rifle Series UK and RMPRA - some very decent folk working very hard to further people’s experiences

Be very careful about other providers

Ive done my research on this, and pretty sure who to avoid , hence my interest in SIS and RMPRA, but thanks for the heads up .
PRL just announced that it is no longer trading - the GBPRA will take over its shooting dates and fixtures
Speak of the devil 😀

GBPRA is rebranded PRL. Tiff Dew is the secretary of IPRF, who run GBPRA. RMPRA and SIS have provenance, PRS GB haven’t done anything yet, apart from jumping the gun.

its not for the feint hearted, the banter can be brutal, theres a clique of Hawaiian shirt wearing homosexuals who frequent the matches who are led by very loud and obnoxious fat boys, not everones cup of tea!

Was there not some nonsense about folk walking about on a live range making videos to try and make it look like they were being shot at?

Bunch of fish wives by the sounds of it.

You would have fitted in well back in Prac pistol (70-90)'s

This is an amusing post with threads of truth through it ! Just to assist/reassure the OP or other potential participants, I can only speak of the SIS shoots at Eskdalemuir of which I have attended three. There is friendly banter as you would expect, but it was well intended, and the participants were all incredibly supportive with each other, sharing elevation and windage settings for each stage ( I almost said dope but that seemed wrong!!). There were no Hawaiian shirt wearing loudmouths in attendance and I even took my 15 year old daughter who really enjoyed herself and wants to go again! Sadly, I and others probably fit in the more rotund category of participants who pack their own support pillow courtesy of their BMI, so there were some fat lads kicking about! 😕
I can’t speak of the other comps but I have seen the loud nylon shirt wearing brigade on range reports from other venues and they made me wince! The BAIRS banter online has been pretty brutal (but very funny) at times but the perception is that this has been generally directed at two individuals who have been perceived as being either a power hungry megalomaniac who allegedly uses PRS shooting as a cash cow that he alone may milk, or one of his cronies who cheated by allegedly shooting a competition course of fire the day before shooting the competition which he won with the full knowledge of the megalomaniac organiser. There was also the recent video that was staged by the megalomaniac and his henchmen to make a safe shoot appear unsafe, to try to cause trouble for the RMPRA. I understand that this has been firmly rebutted so is hopefully in the past.
Currently there seems to be a move away from these individuals and hopefully this will allow the sport to move on from a shaky start in the UK.
