Every time I think I have made my mind up, Hik FQ35 another tempter comes out :-| I like the look of the range finder on the Pulsar, so which one :-|:-|

Hi Ian have you had alook at the image quality to compare and Hiks after sales is excellent, service etc in Leicester
I will compare.

The Falcon. offer good value for money, although, two things regarding 12 micron models...

Firstly 12 micron is nowhere near as sensitive as 17 micron in high humidity.. Faster lenses have to be used, frame rate slowed and filters applied, so your dragging other performance down to try and gain back lost sensitivity..when I say dragging down, I mean latency in the image and then even shallower DOF if using faster lenses...

Secondly 12 micron is best suited to 640 resolution in 35mm-38mm lens sizes to retain field of view when scanning. I have used 12 micron 640 50mm models when scanning and they are right on the cusp of being useable up close...12 micron 640 35mm is the sweet spot and I'd personally advise anyone buying a Falcon to choose the FQ35 over the 384 35mm and 640 50mm models, bigger is not always better when FOV is lost.

So looking at Pulsar they are well aware of this, hence the reason they do not offer any 384 35mm 12 micron models currently and use 12 micron 35mm in the 640 line and 17 micron 50mm models in 640, both of these retain field of view, the newly announced XL models also retain this importance on field of view by adopting a 1024 resolution 12 micron sensor, skipping the 12 micron 640 50mm entirely in the spotter ranges currently...

Thank you Ian, so with pound notes in your pocket which one would you buy now ?? sorry to put you on the spot
384px models. Falcon has more legs... but less field of view. Axion just feels nice ... Also if you want an LRF model your stuck with the Falcon unless you go gryphon .....

IPS 5 are the original style batteries, the replacement for this is the IPS7 , these last longer than the IPS5 also..
