After seeing some affordable (to me) Purdey shotguns at the auctions, I’m reaching out to anyone who might have one for sale, preferably an older 12b sidelock side by side ejector or non-ejector game gun. Happy to consider a project - one with worn barrels suitable for sleeving or needing a bit of restoration where I would love to be able to bring it back to use. Please pm me, thanks.

I have a Beasly, not quite a Purdy but as good as in my opinion.
It has been a project and nearly finished requires the barrels bluing.
A cabinet queen that needs using.
Pm your number if you want some pictures via WhatsApp.

Got a single barrel hammer 16g in a motorcase I may consider parting with but its in mint condition so not a project ?
Thanks, but I’m going to hold out for a sbs, and to use it regularly on our 3000 acre shoot!

Frederick Beesley shotguns are wonderful guns and intimately linked to Purdey history, but it’s a Purdey I will be buying, thanks!

Indeed, many of his patents were incorporated into Purdys guns when he worked for them. Please forgive my typo.

Just on the gun you bought, I’ve refrained from buying due to the tonne of money you need to spend on sorting barrels / or buying something with worn out barrels, how did you get around that? Did you go and view or get any assessment details prior? I’m Interested in doing something similar- Thanks Tom

Hi Tom, aye, any problem with the gun barrels can turn out to be very expensive. In this case, the auction house provided a good condition report and, in particular, the wear specifications (minimum wall thickness and barrel enlargement from proof). My own gunsmith also contacted Purdey to get provenance information and works, including the fact that it had replacement barrels later on in life. All this information confirmed the barrels were still in proof and not worn out.

It's amazing how much you can get for your money if getting a sxs just because they are out of fashion. Enjoy shooting your beautiful gun

Hats off to you sir. What a lovely gun to own and more importantly shoot, I hope you have many good days with the gun & dog.
