Quad into a 4WD pick up

I would imagine width between the wheel arches will be the first thing to look at, although I don't know the average width of a quad ?

Blueroll have you considered that if you find a pick up that will take a quad with the tailgate closed you will also probably have to be able to fit in a suitable set of ramps for loading and unloading. Due to the height of the bed I would think that these could possibly have to be quite long to get the angle right so may have to be folding perhaps?

Think you would need a single or king cab. I've had a D40 Navara, Ranger and Amarok double cab and couldn't quite close the tailgate with a Honda 4x4 quad
Thanks for the info. I would be more than happy with a King/Crew cab as it would be nice to have room behind the seats for coats, bags, sticks etc, which is why I would prefer not to have a single cab.

I'm sure there's someone on here with experience of it but If you've got a quad, all your shooting kit, a set of ramps etc etc is it going to be a squeeze? Is it not easier to just tow a trailer with the quad on? Alternatively there are companies offering UTE type beds that may be an option?

I regularly load a little digger onto a 10x5 box trailer and have put a little wheel on one side of each ramp so I can roll them on edge down beside the digger...in the quad case you may/should be able to roll the ramps underneath the bike and not take up too much extra space.
I got the ramp wheel idea from the Italian Job!
Of course you could buy or make up a heavy duty jib crane to go on the back corner to swing the quad in, which would double for suspended gralloching.
A few weeks ago there was an image of a quad bike roped onto a Navarra (I think) in jokes and funnies perhaps. The joke was that the rope was tied around the wheel spoke of the pickup, disaster waiting to happen... but it did indicate that a quad could get on.
Sorry bad memory, found it and the tailgate was down....

I think most pick ups would in the past take a quad, i've loaded them onto a couple but that would be 20 odd years ago and quads were a lot smaller then and before double cabs really existed, have to admit not done it since but do see it occasionally.
(ur 350 big red was ur standard honda, now all 420 or 500, ur yamaha'a are all 700cc and all wider and longer than they used to be)
Most double cab pick ups back tub is less than 6ft long some only 5ft so would need tail gate down with quad wheels on the tail gate supporting wieght of bike.
The simpliest way would be a trailer as already mentioned, handy for loads of other things too.
Or take the back tub off and put 1 on that suits u and wot u want, but if u lengthen the back tub, remember most pick ups are already 15ft odd long before u start and with the turning circle/parking ability of oil tanker. So not very handy if u ever use it about town when ur not stalking

I'd be guessing that the quad isn't for picking up muntjac or roe deer, you might find (if you intended bringing anything home) you might need the room in the back for a larger species carcass or two/more. The game dealers are less than keen on the carcasses which the quad has been driven on top of these days, and not much happier with those which have been driven down the highway whilst still bound to the quad rack/s....
A trailer would seem to be the most obvious and practical solution, but everyone's personal situation/circumstances differ, and the op may have good reasons for discounting this option.

Had one like that I’m my yard a few years back. Transit, quad on the roof and they were strapping a shed to the side of the van. Had a box on top of the cab, stuff tied to the fuel tank. Every square inch loaded. Cal Mac Isle of Tiree ferry. This was before they brought in the height restriction. I remember the tipper cut to under 5 metres eight ton of coal for the price of a car onto Mull.

Have u thought of just a wee 2wd van/car and quad on trailer combo?
With having the quad u often don't really need a 4x4 (plenty FC staff and others forestry workers use wee vans for work)
A few years ago i was 4x4 less all winter and thought a wee van pulling the quad worked really well, and that was running a small syndicate shoot. But in my area the fields are generally too wet to drive a 4x4 anyway most of the year.
Really all depends wot u want the quad for and how u'd use it/4x4 and store it when not in use.
Towing it behind a smallcar/van is definaely a very cheap option as cars/vans are cheap as chips and u can still use them for other things, quite often double cab pick ups are a pita for normal duties and are dear to buy run and fix
