R8 serial numbers for travel?

Quick question I’m traveling to SA in a couple of weeks. When filling in relevant paperwork for travelling do you disclose all 3 serial numbers for the gun?
Barrel
Action
Bolt head
Or will this just ad confusion at the airport?

I'd fill in exactly what is on your FAC. They'll want to check your paperwork is in order, and discrepancies in that are more problematic. Secondarily, they will want to confirm the item(s) carried are those specified on the paperwork. What I mean is that I think they are checking the papers and then referring them to the firearm, rather than checking the firearm and trying to find the paperwork which corresponds to everything they find on the firearm. I may well be wrong.

All I am 100% sure of is this: whatever you encounter on this trip will not be replicated on the next.

In 3 trips to SA I have not had quite the same routine each time. What has surprised me most is that I am often asked to shout out the numbers I see on the action whilst officials scan the FAC. I.e. they do not check both themselves.

I'd fill in exactly what is on your FAC

Cannot go wrong with that approach.

i had just that 2 guys went through all the gear just to check serial numbers were all aligned to my certificate no concern over anything else just made sure it is all spot on as per

I'd consider having the rifle serial number stamped somewhere very easy to inspect, without opening the whole can of worms of what numbers are on which parts and where do they need to be listed on documents etc. I don't know what anyone else thinks of that idea?

How are your rifles written on your FAC? I’m looking to take my 3006 barrel and was concerned that the way the police have written my licence out it would cause confusion? I thought the action / bolt head would have separate columns both are mine are written with my 6.5x55 barrel

Mine are entered on FAC same as yours.

Which is illogical because the Blaser R8 is modular in operation and an ST bolt head [for example] is not cartridge dedicated. It could serve multiple barrels:

They were only interested i what was in the Peli case and what was on my FAC.
So if you had 10 barrel/rifle configuration on your certificate but only had 2 in front of them that’s all that matters.

On the SAPs form section I it allows you to put two serial numbers one for the frame/receiver and one for the barrel if different. I wouldn’t confuse them with the bolt serial number.

They will only care what is on your SAPS 520 form when you arrive they will not give a fig about your UK licence.

I wouldnt even confuse them with the frame/receiver number!

Having had the confusion of trying to explain receiver numbers and barrel numbers on a previous trip, this time I just entered the barrel number on the SAP520 and made a big flourish of showing them exactly where on the barrel the serial number was.........no issues at all.

Its the old adage....Keep it simple!!

I’m pretty sure the SAPS 520 paperwork allows for serial numbers in different locations.
Indeed it does.

"If your Honour, could turn to page 5 (of 8) in your SAPS 520 bundle. I would draw your Honour's attention to the section "Details of Firearms", box 1.6 (Frame or receiver serial number) and box 1.7 (Barrel serial number)"....

Ahh, the SAPS 520...just got to love filling in a form...🤥

Just spotted the following on the Virgin Airways site. For those who need to secure that document to satisfy South African Police Force rules, the email address is BFLHRFirearms@homeoffice.gov.uk

Previously Border Force arranged temp export permit via email. More recently they post the application out following email request. May take longer? Plan ahead?

Going through Manchester will a custom 338-06 I had to dismantle the rifle in departures as the serial number was on the bottom of the barrel.
Interesting.
