So i ran into a docter 8x56, iluminated, reticle is nothing but a tiny little dot in The middle and 2 short lines on on The edge for leveling. That reticle calls to me since my biggest problem with my classic scopes is that shooting a hare at 200m is a bit of a guessing game. Those older reticles get chunky!

Price is 500 euro. Reticle aside are these worth it? I need another old fixed power as mutch as i need another centerfire rifle (308, 30-06, 6.5x55, 243, 222 you get the idea) but i could do with an "upgrade" to replace the S&B klassik variable i now have on my 222. That S&B gives me nothing but headache (litterally). Terrible flare at dusk, cant see a dog sized animal at 50 meter level glare.

glass on those up there with the diatal? I have never in my Life looked trough a docter scope.

from the matte anodised body and reticle it seems rather recent production (as compared to my other scopes wich are all made of steel with glossy finish)

Had a Docter 8x56 but not for long. Glass was average, felt it was overly coloured and poor clarity.

pretty clear then, doesnt sound like 500 euro well spent. Il keep a look out for another zeiss but with a 1 reticle. I like to Zero those just above the Post wich defeats the issue of reticles covering the target

Just out of curiosity. How do you find the german reticle number 1. I hunted with number 4 most of my time but have just recently aquired a scope with 1 reticle as I felt the 4 might be a bit too thin in the centre for shots in really bad light.

Its my favorite reticle. It requires a bit of a different approach. I zero with air rifle targets that have a 25mm bullseye by sitting the bullseye on the post. In the field i then place the post under a hares chin for instance. With a 4 reticle i simply wouldnt see the target anymore at 200+ meter even in daytime.

holdovers get a bit trickier but i use the ears on the hare for measurement and hold over by feeling. If that isnt enough its too long a shot for me on that target anyway.

for me the 1 reticle is the only thick style of reticle that is usable on small targets at range
