Rat trap bait

Been using peanut butter for my traps in the back garden but recently they seam to have gone off and not having much luck. Can anyone give me bc any other suggestions. Thanks

Slivers of wine gums. Glue it or afix it to little spikes on the trigger part of the traps.

I always used to use peanut butter and it is good but I think wine gums are marginally better and definitely easier to use. The downside is that I like wine gums and dislike peanut butter myself, so keeping a stock of wine gums handy is harder than having a jar of peanut butter. I have got round this by opening the whole pack of wine gums and rolling them around on the floor to ensure I won't eat them  . I'm such a child.

I use a piece of cooked bacon (tough and wears well) tied to the trigger of the trap, with some string. They cannot get it off without tugging it, voila, job done. I've also used the bucket type with the home made roller, needs to be deep enough and 1/2 filled with water to prevent their exit!

I'll add a second nod to nutella for mouse traps. Rat traps are different though. We have pack rats here which seem to be extremely cunning in their ability remove a bait without triggering the trap. Years ago, after discovering their fondness for horse treats (the extruded bar kind), I started using hot glue to affix them to the pan of the old style, wooden victor traps. Works a treat. The bits pre-weight the pan and any attempt to snatch them will set off the trap.
