Dear All,
Most of you know that I am heavily involved in the procedures of the change of REACH regulation that puts s strong restriction on using lead for shportshooting and hunting the EU. I have been leading Hungary's team of experts to arrive to a solution where our firearms are saved.
I am so proud that working with Pedersoli and the CIP we managed to contribute to a full derogation on historical firearms.
The REACH Committee meeting last year December did not change the status of our arms, meaning that all the muzzle loaders, all the breech loading firearms manufactured before 1 January 1900, and all the reproductions of these firearms are under derogation, meaning that we can keep on using them both for sportshooting and hunting.
Keep your fingers crossed so it will stay like this. The REACH regulation is now in front of the REACH Committee of the European Commission, and went through several changes and fine tunings compared to its starting version. There are some points that got better with longer sunset periods, but in some cases there were no significant changes. So far historical firearms seem to be saved.
I'll keep you updated!
Take care,
Balázs
