Real muzzle velocity on factory ammo

Was it not this ammunition in 243W that blew up an X bolt a while back? Have heard several reports of stiff bolts with it. Maybe a bad combination with badly copper fouled barrels raising pressure excessively??

Yes...I have witnessed it in a Kimber 84M in 7mm08. Almost had to take a mallet to the bolt to open it, but not quite.

As the saying goes "there's no such thing as free velocity" and Superperformance achieves it by getting pressures right on the edge, over the edge in some instances.

Has anyone tested the true feet per second \ meters per second
for Norma 120 grain ballistic tip in 6.5 x55.

Thanks,
Glendine.

It will vary with different barrel lengths, barrel condition, temperature etc so everyones data will differ.
For example I was testing some 6.5x55 homeloads today in -12c and a 7m/s wind (not ideal conditions :D)
So windchill factory -20c or so. Barrel 53cms. If I had chronoed it it would no doubt have been vastly different than a 60cm barrel at 10c or 20c.

We ran some Hornady superformance in .204 through a crono last year.
32gr Hornady V-max stated fps was 4225 we only got 3750fps.

I wonder if the manufactures should/could be held accountable. EG advertising say 3000 fps for instance when you are actually chronographing 2875.
Simple eh! You are buying on the strength of their blurb stating the speed you desire but you are not often getting that speed.

I’d like to see someone take on a manufacturer to try and win that one!
Ken.
