Recommend me a sound mod for .22Hornet

Just recently got a CZ527 .22Hornet , had an itch to scratch, now looking for the best sound moderator for it, was thinking wildcat panther but not convinced it’s the best choice. Looking for an over barrel type with max sound attenuation.

So what are you using? what works best?

I have the Wildcat Panther , calibre specific .22 Hornet model on my CZ 527 , very pleased with the performance.
Also very good accuracy (1/2 inch MOA at 100 yards) with Remington 35gr Accutips .

They don't take much hushing down to be honest. I had a Sak on mine for ages, tried a Panther on it when I burnt out the Sak and it wasn't noticeably quieter. In the end I had an Ase SL5 on it and that was really good, but not over barrel and it was too heavy.

You won't need a massive amount of expansion space and a big mod will spoil the balance of it. If you're set on something over barrel then the Panther isn't a bad choice. It's pretty compact and lightweight. Dealing with the blast is easy but you'll never make the bullet quiet. Don't overthink it.

Its half the powder of a 223 . Any CF mod will work . I have been using an MAE Scout from New Zealand in Stainless painted with a very good paint that has not chipped etc in what i think is about 20 years or so .

Back in the day we’d shoot roe with the unmoderated .222 and/or hornet, often shooting another within 10 mins - these are both pretty quiet unmoderated, if you don’t move about things settle down after the crack pretty quickly. Just sayin’.

I have an old PES on mine which uses the barrel as the inner core. It's a bit dirty but as it never stays on there's no problems. As said above they a easily moderated and any centerfire mod will do. 👍

Fill your boots but there's no way I'd be bothering with moderating a 22 Hornet based on upsetting the delightful balance of a lightweight rifle configured for sporting purposes.

They don’t take much moderating but they also still pack a punch. When i bought my .22 honest (a lovely CZ American with set trigger), the gun shop supplied it with a light polymer sound mod - supposedly rated for small centrefire. Was shooting it one day and the sodding thing blew up and put a dent in my Landie bonnet! I was shocked at the violence of the explosion - luckily the damage was limited an no one else about. My ear drums took a hammer… I can’t remember what they replaced it with, the rifle long gone. But it was still very light and most importantly stood up to the job.

The .22 Hornet with a mod. is a far better tool than one without mod ! All you need to do is take some barrel off , so the rifle will sit just fine with the moderator of choice . A hornet case is around half of the capacity of a 223 rem remember . The barrel being cut down totally ( i use a cz hornet the last 20 years) and its better balanced after its chop and totally weight is the same weight off barrel , i took off ! its also way better balanced as the weight is nearer hence more stable.
Only dodgy thing with the 22 hornet i fear is when lead gets totally knocked on the head - that's a way off though at present as there are still no .22 rf ammo of any worth . The 22 Hornet and the .22 rf should be around for a good while yet .
