Buy one at a time, not a set, and decide what you like as you go along. You won't need everything in the set and there will be knives you want that aren't in a set.
All the knives mentioned on the thread are good, but you need to work out what works for you. For example, German chef;s knives (Wusthof, Henkel) tend to have deeper bellies than Sabatier. I personally prefer that, but you may be different. Also Japanese knives are lovely but it's nice to match the blade to the cuisine.
