Need to post a scope, and looking for recommendations of decent couriers and protection for a £1000 or so.

Never had an issue with the Post Office.

Tell them what it is, pay for the insurance.

Everyone I’ve used always state that glass, ie, optics is not covered by insurance element. Fortunately never had to find out the hard way .

Check they cover optics for insurance, ask.

Also, they will only cover you if they do, if you have proof of payment for when YOU acquired the item originally.

Packaging - if damaged, original packaging must be kept and pictured - also note -

  • where a breakable item has not been packed in a strong container with enough packaging material to protect the item against pressure and knocks, and where the item has not been marked with the words “FRAGILE HANDLE WITH CARE” in capital letters on the cover or envelope above the address,

Royal mail best for me, never had any issues. Whatever you decide just don't use DPD! Unless you want your scope to be thrown and kicked like ball. Talking from experience

I've used RMSD for everything from scopes and other optics, to professional camera equipment, to very expensive watches.

However make sure you do send it RMSD and don't be fobbed off with just tracked - I've had way too many incidents of parcels sent Tracked 48 that have gone wayward or been lost entirely!

Any Swarovski items I have had from Macleods of Tain, scopes, binoculars are always sent RMSD … Never had an issue
