Back before the wee one came along, I was only shooting about 7 roe a year. Having the DSC1 where I was able to sell on any extra venison, opened up the amount that I was able to take and I managed 35 - 40 roe per year over a couple of years. I work offshore so am only home for half of the year but with a 4 1/2 year old my time is limited far more. If I manage 20 a year, I am doing ok.
I know a lot dont care about numbers and this isnt a "ive shot more deer then you" post (if it was I would be keeping quiet) ...its more for general interest

I think there are so many variables that its really difficult.
Older = wiser so maybe less inclined but also maybe more time and money?
Area = more access to deer - or more difficult to get ground as everyone is after them
Life - gets in the way when a lot of us are the keenest - family, jobs, mortgage ...list goes on
I have to drive nearly an hour to my closest ground that holds deer but most of my (limited) stalking is 4 1/2 hours away in Devon and I'm just lucky to have a good friend who lets me shoot his deer. I am like a kid in a sweetshop with deer...I love being out after them....though as I get older getting up at stupid hours and 200+ miles in the 4x4 are less appealing.
I exactly know what you mean, I'm in my late twenties ( 38 ) and finding time for stalking having other full time job and different commitments it's not easy. Another, just as you said - location... I live in Northamptonshire and most stalking opportunities I was able to find were >3hr drive, what's making it even more difficult to plan.
