Anyone got a combination they have had success with (reduced 45-70 loads) obviously the usual candidates like traiboss etc are not available so viht is the most easly obtained.
Ive a pile of 350 grain hard casts but information is sketchy.
Id imagine theres going to have to be some filler to take a bit of space up, im not fancying anything messy like cream of wheat.
Im just after somewhere to start researching and a first hand experience is as good as anywhere.
Its going through a modern marlin.
Thanks in advance. 👍

Black powder makes is a nice reduced load. Put as much in as you like and fill the space up with semolina. Keep adjusting until it does wat you want it to.

Ive tried black power but its horrendously dirty. A reduced nitro would be easier.
I know youve to be carful to avoid air space in the case too.

19- 20 gr 2400 works well for light loads in a .444M and in the 45-70
Was just going to suggest 2400 and as already suggested, any of the alliant shotgun powders. Red dot, green dot, herco and unique.
The only thing one will need is a method to avoid double dosing a case.

I put the primed cases upside down. Put the funnel upside down and only an upside down case is selected and placed in the upside down funnel then it's turned only to be charged. Two trays helps.
It just helps to not double dose, which could be very interesting with these fast powders!

Similar weight for all these powders (Assuming i can find any) 10-12g....and no filler?
.

A quick check shows viht N320 being almost identical to red dot and perhaps more easily available??

I use 7.5 gn unique in 3030. That is super sonic with light bullets, subsonic with heavy.

With the larger case of 4570 I'd be looking around 12gn to start with lead.

The trouble with unique is it also now pretty much unobtainable.

I think RS14 is the new goto "fluffy" powder now that Trailboss and NC32 (Tin Star) are unobtainium.

It's not quite Trailboss fill to 70% and you cannot go wrong, but much bulkier than other powders.
