Well said FB , and I posted a parcel today from NI to Inverness and it’s the same rate too 👍

Yep - there does seem to be some confusion about posting to NI - just don’t even think about immediately after Brexit when regular RFDs wrongly got the collywobbles! That said there does seem to be a different rate of posting to north of Pitlochry - something called “Highlands and Islands” rate?

It's worse than that.

I once had to go to Belfast for work (usually authorised by one's line-manager).

"As it's international travel, you will have to get 'authority to travel' from (insert name of very senior officer here) and get a "Letter of Request" (the old 'Commission Rogatoire - always misnamed as a Commissioner's Rogatoire {and usually misspelt} from the CPS.

'Proper' international travel for work, was a pain in the ass.

I dug out the map...

and carefully explained the (oft tragic) history of Ireland, and that (currently) N.I. and hence Belfast, was part of the U.K.

Bless him, he got it, and off I went.

Indeed so S1962.
Being married to a Londoner I soon found out just how far-flung this little corner of the UK is in the minds of those who occupy the rest of said Kingdom. The number of times over many years I was asked by forthcoming visitors whether they needed their Passport or currency exchanged and even what side of the road those few of us who were not still astride donkeys drove our cars are legion.
Funny thing is and despite the mildly irritating inconvenience of thirty years of “The Troubles” all of said visitors couldn’t wait to come back and still do.

As an aside a good pal who worked in the Met and who was involved in the John Stalker (stalker? - now that is funny) affair always refused to come over on social visits because he felt particularly at risk (like why?). When he did finally relent and came with his wife (who also worked in NSY and had already visited many times before) it became a standing joke at how he behaved in public - always wearing a hat, well pulled down over his eyes and to the indigenous population looking rather obvious/sinister as a result. This was particularly so as NI folk always look for eye contact and a smile or nod - unlike most I have ever met from the Big Smoke - so to the locals he stood out like the proverbial sore thumb as did I when I dared speak to folk on the Heathrow Express! Funny old world….
