Looking at a new rail, but there are two options, one with 6-48 screws and one with 8-40 screws.
Which one is the factory norm that Remington 700's are tapped for?

All of the old production Rem's will be 6-48

Pretty sure the high end Bergara have gone to 8-40 along with the new Rem 'Alpha 1'

They may have changed it on the bog standard, new production Remmys, as they also put Timneys in them now (although not adjustable :banghead: )

Factory is 6-48 (and essentially proprietary to the gun trade). 8-40's came in vogue after gunsmiths has to correct factory misaligned holes (the larger 8-40 screw helped account for any improperly aligned and drilled holes), and the 8-40 size was found to be more durable (hence many military 700's have 8-40 holes) and also more easily sourced.
