Remington Core Lock .308

I was in a Gun shop in Devizes last week and saw a pile of Remington ammunition on the counter marked up at £27.00 a box.
I still have to shoot my new Blaser, short, semi weight, fluted barrel in and as it was .308 and 180gn I thought, at that price I'd try a couple of boxes, (when I am feeling better )
I have since found that Dauntsy Guns has the same ammo at £21.95 a box for the same calibre and weight, can't get there yet but might get some more later on.
As it seems rather cheap compared to other makes of similar calibre and weight I am wondering if a load of Remington ammo has been 'Dumped' UK side for some reason.
Has anybody tried it and what was the result ?

I've used the 130gr .270win stuff a few times over the past 2 or 3 years. Maybe 400 rounds worth all told. I think it was around £24 a box of 20 last lot I picked up. I usually use it for plinking, but it's taken a few hinds up in Scotand too, no problems with it as far as I can tell. Groups around 1-1.5" which is fine for my needs.

Don't trust the claimed velocities though, it's mildly loaded to say the least.

I don't think it's been dumped just that there's maybe not a great call for it as it is a heavy bullet for .308 W and an "old school" construction of that bullet. I'd maybe be slightly concerned if using it in Scotland if it made the required 2,450fps? EMC what length is your barrel on your Blaser?

Hi Steve, my Blaser barrel is 20 1/2" but I only intend, if I get reasonable results, to use them for Driven Boar so distances will not be great at most.
At the price they are being offered I might just use a few to settle my new barrel in too.

Albeit old-fashioned, they are a tough bullet. Have been used to really good effect on African game by many hunters for years.

I have seen a lot of advertising for Remington rifles on face book recently, perhaps there is a new importer. I'm sure it used to be Edgar Bros but they aren't now so it could be the new importer is pushing them.
I get on pretty well with PPU which are even cheaper, and my home loads of course, but when I saw these I thought I'd give them a go.

From what I’m told the importer has done a run of special low price ammo to try and get people using it then liking it so they keep buying it when the price goes back up.

It was Edgar Bros (who are great), then SMK (who are about the most incompetent company ever to trade), and now it is Raytrade (who are brilliant). I guess they are still working to rebuild Remington's brand in the UK after SMK killed it off for a few years by being unable to provide any products.

I used Remington Rifles for years and shot hundreds of Deer and Foxes never had any problems with them or their triggers ;-)
The first new rifle I had was a Parker Hale 1200 then when Remington appeared on the market changed to them. I think the last one I bought was from the Sportsman when they were down in Paignton and cost £350.00, a lot more than my original PH 1200 at £120 complete with sling, slip and a couple of boxes of bullets from Richards of Taunton.

Sellior and Bellot did a run of 180gr Remington core Lockt a few years ago. I’m sure it was less than £1 a round.

I didn’t buy due to the weight. I have regretted it ever since.

It’s a tough, heavy, slow bullet. Expect poor energy transfer to light and medium game and a lot of runners
The first part of your sentence is exactly what I want but I don't understand the last half of it.
I will be using these for driven Boar at distances up to 50 yards max so I think they will be travelling fast enough for me and if they are a tough bullet , good.
If I hit them where I intend to hit them I don't see why I should expect a lot of runners.
Dauntsy guns had some S&B 180gn bullets at a very good price too but have now sold out and are having a job to source any more :-(

OK thanks, I didn't stop reading at the full stop and start again where the capital letter was :(
Having read it again, that part won't affect me as they won't be used on such quarry as you refer to.
A lot of people speak to me in capital letters these days to allow for my dotage ;-)

Corelokts make a right mess of things iv had a fair bit of experience seeing my shooting partner used them for years doesnt anymore due to the explosive nature

Can't comment on Edgars and Smk, but Raytrade have a great service, my local rfd ordered a remmy from them for me and it arrived next day before 11am, rang them to ask about the thread for the moderator and they replied instantly, they do seem to know their stuff, let's hope it stays that way.
