With remote working / stalking etc and no mobile signal has any body had any experience with the new satellite messenger via apple ios when you have no signal etc .?
Just to be able to keep in touch with the odd message back home if need be and also Incase of emergencies
Is it actually a thing here in the uk yet
Or is it still best going for a inreach type devise and a monthly subscription
Thanks

Not here yet

It works and is available in N America and has become a standard thing outfitters ask about when you go canoeing in Canada now and seems to be fine as an alternative for Garmin type devices (fills the insurance req for a means of emergency communication when leaving)

Not in the UK yet ofcom did an announcement for consultation - don't know enough to know what the downsides are or why it wouldn't just go ahead - no announcement when it might come here

Have it as a feature on my iPhone but I’ve not tested it out yet. Set up and ready to use though. Signal at my stalking ground is hit and miss with plenty of dead zones so a handy feature to have, as long as you have a clear view of the sky.

Thank you both for getting back to me
Would be interested if it works jagged77 I can’t try as I have a older iPhone and as far as I know you need a iPhone 14 or newer to have it but that might be not available in the uk yet ???

Google search was also a bit unclear if it was up and running in the uk
Don’t want to get a inreach and then a subscription to then find out I could just get a newer iPhone and have it on that instead

In the meantime - public service announcement to make sure you have registered for SMS 999 - this saves lives every year and is available on your phone today with no kit

Post in thread 'No signal? Google now have you covered' No signal? Google now have you covered

The 14 has been out for a while now. However the feature only allows for emergency notifications not free form messages to contacts. If you want that then a device with subscription may be the way to go.

That’s what I thought
Wonder if it will happen anytime soon ..
