Renewal of coterminous FC in Wiltshire.

How long does it take, has anybody had a renewal recently ?
Mine was 18 months ago and was handled very quickly, having spoken to them that summer they had cleared the covid backlog.

That said they may be a little behind now with Craig’s sad passing, a colleague has been waiting for an SGC grant for well over six months. He would have been with Craig so may explain it.

I too was with Craig, lovely man, sorely missed and his passing is still impacting timings.

Grants are typically 4-6 months:

Renewals are supposedly a bit quicker but they are still playing catchup and all the other FEO's apparently trying to absorb Craig's customers hence his customers do seem to be taking a little longer than most (anecdotally from experiences of other club members).

I (re)applied on 19th October and finally have my interview on Thursday.

Last time I saw my Wiltshire FEO was 5 years ago and I can't remember his name. He was a large chap who owned Spaniels and really pleasant man. Sad to hear he's passed away, if it's him.

Krikey 4 to 6 months ! I will have to start my process about September then to make sure I have it renewed for January. I hope I don't have to submit my expiring FC on submission of the renewal process as I need it for a trip to Croatia in November.

That'll be me starting now then, 6 months left on mine.

Long gone are the days when you could walk in to the Station in Marlborough, go away and have a cup of coffee then go back and pick it up half an hour later all up dated, sometimes less than the time to drink your coffee.

Be wary of submitting too early - is there not any specific guidance on Wiltshire’s website? This from Avon & Somerset:

Renewing your certificate

Your application for renewal must be submitted at least eight weeks before your certificate expires. Failure to do this may result in delays.
Do not submit renewals earlier than three months prior to expiry, as these will be rejected and returned to you.
Your new certificate will be sent to you five working days before the expiry date of your current certificate.
We deal with a high number of renewals every month and are therefore unable to acknowledge individual applications.

Inspection visit

Depending on the current renewal procedures, you may not receive an inspection visit.
I’m must add, if you do submit anything electronically to A&S you do receive a confirmation of submission.

Sadly yes and never to return. I've forgotten the ladies name (Kerr?) but she was excellent.

That’s how I’ve done my last 10 variations, minus the coffee. Send (electronic) paperwork, make an appointment, pick up ticket.

That’s grants, renewals will naturally be prioritised so should be quicker.

Hot off the press direct from the FAL Dept:
"We will accept applications no earlier that 4 months ahead of time – at around this time we usually post a reminder letter to you with further instructions and information and recommend that you put the medical proforma part of the application in to your GP at that time so they can get it back to you in good time to submit your application at least 8 weeks ahead of expiry of the current one."

Oh well a bit more info but it does seem an awfully long time to process something that is already on the compute which is confirmed by the application .
I would have expected millions to have been processed in an 8 hour day five days a week over a four week month.

You are applying logic. Surely you have been reading the related threads about FLO resourcing and the fall-out post Plymouth?

Add in variations, grants, revocations, home visits, land checks etc. and the time slips away.

If you get it in 8 weeks before expiry I'd be very, very surprised if they didn't get it back out to you in time for the expiry, which is what they are required to do.

Craig was a great man at the job, he said after retiring to Licensing from Armed Resonse "I went from dealing with really horrible people all the time to really decent people most of the time"! He sorted me out with a new licence as soon as my (yes, very stupid...) ban for driving over the limit expired after a properly extensive interview and doing a proper write up.
