A local farmer called twice for assistance with hare coursers in one week no response, pulled off his marsh with a trailer full of sheep for market on the A12 and was pulled up by traffic for having a dirty number plate.. needless to say after explaining the previous ask for help the man in the peaked cap got in his car and left the farmer to carry on his journey.

it needs reporting to make the police care, you cant expect the police to make it a priority if they dont know about it.
traffic violations are easy to police if they get seen.
i find it really odd that people expect the police to do more but also turn a blind eye when it suits them

waste of time phoning plod
The police will make anything a priority if they get enough calls about it or the right people kicking up a fuss. Anything obvious that the public sees or is a hot topic nationally will get a response next is what comes in bulk. If no one from rural communities call the police they won't be coming out to them but if everyone calls in for every little bit then there will be a shift and more resources sent that way.

oh so just ring the police and they will come running yeah right, ive come across a lot of scrotes while out at night, i dont bother ringing now, because i know for a fact the police wouldnt respond, your police force in east sussex must be good, last time i rung they said leave your name and address and we will contact you on a answering machine, on that night two guys on lamp with a cross bow, and while driving home i passed a mcdonalds and popped in for a brew and lo and behold 3 police cars parked up 5 officers filling there faces bs

yes same in the thames valley,i have been shot at twice whilst getting either in or out of my vehicle on my stalking ground and as i had no evidence other than a large chunk of soil blown out of the ground and a hole through a wooden fence post nothing could be done and they had no officers in the area, it seems some one has to be killed before they take any notice but probably not even then!

Ring them and note the time & any response.

Email the Police complaints in your authority if its not the response you would reasonably expect and ask to be updated on the situation.

It won't get anything sorted immediately but it will make the incident recorded and they have to respond to your complaint, highlighting the issue further.

Scrapping in town or vandalism is more visible so they are forced to act, rather than some blokes in a field out in the sticks. Not necessarily right, but the way things are.

Don't you have a lunch break at work? You'll find they're encouraged to go into local businesses to show they are about, who knows, that branch of McDonalds might have had a problem with boy racers in the car park or gangs hanging about. Sadly they are constantly having numbers reduced and can't be everywhere at once, a pile up on a motorway or a battered wife will probably trump a couple of lampers

Were those five officers response officers for the area the poaching was taking place ? Given there was five of them not likely. Unfortunately the police is divided in to areas and job roles. Poaching like it or not on the whole is not a threat to life. There seems to be a belief that there are an abundance of police officers sat poised to respond to any incident. There isn’t there are a handful for most geographical areas, generally there time is consumed with custodies or custody watches. Throw in to that someone gets arrested then feels ill a couple of those all ready limited response officers will spend the night or day babysitting them in hospital.

Unfortunately there are a lack of police, what is viewed as priority by us will unlikely be by them. You may see a massive headquarters filled with staff, very few of them respond to ongoing incidents.

The police aren’t the people that can change that the politicians are. Massive reductions in numbers, closing of stations combined with an eternal attitude of just getting on with it.

Which invariably results in overworked underpaid staff of work with stress, anxiety, depression.

In a society though the figures say is getting much safer the fact is it isn’t.

I feel for anyone that reports a crime and does not have officers attend, however if the choice is an ongoing housebreaking, domestic, missing teenager, or couple of guys coursing for Hares Unfortunately the Hares will be left to fate

I reported a vehicle lamping near a wood at midnight a couple of months ago and the police were there within 15 minutes. Apparently the police had had 5 calls about deer poachers that week

Told by my mate a serving officer of the Met they get asked was there any need for them to arrest someone could they not be given a warning instead by the desk sergeant. You can see why they do not bother they cant win asked him why I see so many officer's at my local BP garage he said they get free drinks.

For those saying 'It's a waste of time, me / a mate / a mate's best dog called them and got ignored', it's quite simple - you (or your mate, or his best dog) make a formal complaint about getting ignored.

If you want to change something, you can either DO something to get it changed, or you can whinge on the sidelines.

Trying to get police scotland to answer a 101 is near impossible. I had several poachers on the river and between myself and a helper we had five attempts to get through with no success. All calls were between 25 and 35 minutes . On phoning 999 we were told that salmon poaching was not an emergency.

We all sit back and let the Government run all our services into the ground . We have lost a great MP most want to get fame and line there own purse look where the contracts went for Corvid contracts went friends of friends.

Was listening to a radio interview this morning about a new wildlife protection unit that has been set up in Ireland, they are going to concentrate on prosecuting people digging badgers, poaching deer and those that are killing protected birds by various different methods. I was very interested in the subject until the interviewer asked how many people does the unit comprise of nationwide, when your man being interviewed said "4 at the moment" I nearly crashed the shagging jeep.
