Rifle Tripod Help/Advice

I'm looking to buy a tripod for rifle use. I don't want one with a hog saddle. I will use it exclusively with an arca rail.

I don't want one with a central post either or any more than 3 sections, probably carbon fibre but want one tall enough, I'm 6'3". I'd have to buy sight unseen but I'm not overly familiar with the different options.

It seems on a casual look around shooting specific tripods seem to cost a lot more than photography ones. Is there any reason for that? If you were to buy a good quality photography tripod and head with plenty of weight capacity built in does it amount to the same thing?

Also for those that have used both, what would you recommend. A ball head or levelling base?

Any specific kits, makes/models or tripods and heads separately would be appreciated. Or ones to avoid! Shooting specific or photography. Many thanks.

Innorel RT80C should be tall enough for your needs. Levelling head is fine if land is flat - otherwise full beallhead - Koolehaoda E3 (E4 better but hard to get hold of).

Is carbon fiber something you'd be wanting? Scotts Country do the Rekon brand of tripods and I've used both variants...still do now even...sunwayfoto tripod with locking clamp as opposed to locking knob would get my vote for ease and less fiddle. I'm 6'3 and have plenty of height in the rekon tripods both are 3 section I think. I currently use the thicker legged version and nice and stable.

Any specific info or pics just pm me mate

Regarding the weight rating of a photography bipod is for the weight to be sitting directly over the ball head or clamp. If you mount your rifle near the tip of the forend you're now applying a lot of torsional force, many times the weight of the rifle alone and the weight is highly offset. This is where shooting tripod's can/should be much stronger and also have a wider footprint to accommodate this.

I was looking at buying a photography tripod for just this, Manfroto or similar. Try Gumtree as there were dozens for sale S/H when I looked, tripods & ballheads.

I just got one of these. Hadn't heard of them before but was pleasantly surprised and when I looked up the price was shocked how much cheaper it is than others.

The legs are about 50% thinner than some.of the RRS and similar shooting tripod brands but this one is rated to 25kg.

I'm 6ft2 and it puts my rifle at the perfect height for a standing shot with legs fully extended.

Most often than what we think, an arca rail is not the ideal solution. For example, i only use a tripod for close shots (max 150 m from standing and max 200 for sitting on small animals like roes) so i don't strictly need the added stability of an arca system. I much prefer to be able to lean the rifle on a simple v rest silently and without any thought and take the shot. I think I shot more or less 30 roes like this and never missed a shot so apparently this simpler system works for my applications.past 200 m i always shoot prone or i don't shoot. I want max accuracy and stability and i want to shoot the rifle how it was zeroed.

Mine was 30£. I've done some killing with it. Dunno the make.
I don't have a good picture of them sorry.
