Road kill for dog food

If it’s on the road or council verge it’s the property of the council therefore removal is theft. On private land it’s the property of the landowner or tenant. The whole thing about if you ran it over you can’t have it but the bloke behind can is an urban (or possibly rural) myth.

my dad was a pretty petty and anal copper and he told me it was law, brought in during ration era to stop poaching.
it is probably theft, but i think the meaning of theft is to permanently deprive the legal owner, if they werent going to eat the deer i cant see it mattering or the cps being worried

Totally agree with Long_range_rob. highways (usually local authority) own it. Whether the car behind, on a penny-farthing or humming Rule Brittania: still the property of the highways. Private land, the owner or the sporting tenant with the relevant rights.

I would seriously be cautious about taking roadkill. I have personally picked up a deer that was dead and after pm; was full of immobilon. After a veterinary witch hunt, the culprit did not come forward.

I am not sure it is theft, because Deer are classed as a wild animal, and no one owns them whilst they are alive, unless they have been bred captured and kept in an enclosed area, as this was still alive in the middle of the road, when it dies it possibly becomes the property of the owner of the road, it would then be possible for the owner of the car that hit it, to make a claim against the owner of the road, so saying that it is very unlikely anyone would claim the carcass, even though at the time it was hit it didn't belong to anyone. probably why they are classed as wild animals, as there are quite a lot killed on the road, without recourse.

When I check my traps/cams I have to growl at my dogs for trying to eat this cow (and others over the years)

I shot a hind yesterday morning and cut the head off and threw it to the young dog for his ration of the day.

Pic taken after the rounds this morning...venison,fresh heads,one of the best! I will split it later so the brains can be accessed,if he is on his usual gannet time he will eat the scalp,ears,bristles and all.
Its how dogs are actually meant to be fed,not only meat but lots of roughage in their diet along with the bones.

Both would gorge on this cow if allowed, its been dead 11 days iirc.
