Roe buck age

Shot this last week. No fluffy stuff on antlers and coat shabby.
Mmmm how old :-|View attachment 202607
Shame you haven't done a face on picture but regardless, it's clearly another youngster. Neck like a pencil. No weight in it's rear end either. Probably nearly two which could be confirmed with it's teeth.
What did it weigh in the larder?

Just managed to take a few photos of one more. Middle aged? The antlers seem quite long.

Well I’d say that the buck in pic 4 is not the same as the other pics.
As above, pic 1 buck good middle aged buck, pic 4 I’d be shooting if you’re after shooting something.

I agree with teyhan1 that picture 4 looks like a different buck. Pictures 1-3, nearly 3 years old. Picture 4 is a year or two older. Both good bucks that I would be in no hurry to cull.

Hi,

I would need some help determining the age of this buck. I would not want to shot a young buck in his 3 year.

Thanks for looking.

In the mature category mate .I await the clerk of the works takes on it and his damning report of my post 😁
This saving bucks and wouldn’t shoot that buck is a load of shite tbh .I’m in some prime roe country in fact I’d say there’s not much out there to better it but trying to manage any one buck here is probably akin to looking for Bigfoot .
Unless you have a fenced area or every stalker in the vicinity is reading from the same script then forget management you’ll only look silly when pressed by anyone that actually shoots roe not reads books .
If you want a buck shoot it ,it’s simple .The only time bucks can be patterned is early May when they are setting up territory only to be run off by a bigger buck ,not better just bigger .Antler size has no bearing on whether or not a buck will hold a decent territory .I’ve watched a big bodied 4 pointer displace what I thought was the master buck and very easily too .
Advice mate …Get out and see for yourself what happens ,take from the Internet snippets that interest you but do not fall for the overnight hero’s or DMG speel ,they will tell you anything that they are told by equally obnoxious mentors .The only teacher is getting out there mate .Try watching the does near the rut and you’ll sudden be aware or far more bucks than you ever thought were about .Don’t look for bucks ,look for does and all else will fall into place .
Certain ,not all ,adult does are hefted to parcels of land but as the rut progresses she will wander in search of bucks ,any old buck ,young or old that is out doing the same .Territories fall to pieces late rut and it’s when most fights occur I’ve found .A young contender will challenge an older buck off his territory and sometimes win if the older buck is rutted out .Seen it happen and watched a small six kill an older buck only last year .He died of internal injuries, shock as I stood over it .Don’t be too hung up on age unless you want to start a jaw chart for reference .Young mature old is all you ever need to fill out yearly cull sheets if that’s your thing .
