I made two small indent cuts up and down the lips place so I can easily hold it with teeths and stay hands free.

Richard Prior went out with a Hungarian master around the right time (around 11 August), and this was covered in the Shooting Times some years ago now. He scraped a bit with his foot and sticks in a few (3, istr) different areas, bringing 3 older bucks in close. All before he even reached for his trusty beech leaf.

I’ve done that once whilst showing my son the technique. I don’t know who was most surprised me, my boy or the buck.
