just bean reading about the royal british legion, paying nearly £70 grand wages for a diversity and inclusion manager, well im sorry to say they will be getting no more donations from me, i have supported them for over 50 years, this money was donated by the public for all the heroes, not for some wokey manager to rattle on about ethnicity in the armed forces bs.

To be fair to them they are one of the better charities when it comes to charitable spending. Looking at the charity commission accounts they consistently spend the majority of their funds on charitable activities. For example the year financial year 22/23 they had a gross income of £147m, gross spend of £180m. £133m spent on charitable works, £46.9m on fundraising and £836k on governance. So while a 70k salary sounds extravagant for a charity in the grand scheme of things it accounts for a tiny percentage of their overall spend (big salaries account for roughly 0.5% of their total spend)

You may find that under the Equality Act 2010, they have no choice.
You do not need a manager to ensure equality. You need simple but effective procedures in HR, and ensure the organisational culture is in place of treating people decently regardless of their background or the dumb things people do from time to time.

The Legion got my dear old mother her War Widow's pension restored back to her and her cohort by lobbying the House of Lords...through such as a then very old Earl Haig, a young Viscount Freyburg and other sons of various military men...when Thatcher tried to block its being added to a Pensions Bill going through Parliament. I don't have, as such, a problem with it. A lot of men who were secretly as queer as coots likely fought and died for this country in both world wars. They did their duty as much as any other person. I always buy a poppy each year.

But everyone is a manager these days, even in a department of one.
