Does anyone use a s+b klassic in 3-12x50 for deer stalking how do you get on with the ffp compared to a sfp scope. I have seen one withe an illuminated ret for sale and I’m interested. I’ve got a 8x56 it’s a cracking scope, simple good glass. Was thinking being able to adjust would be better. Any infomation would be appreciated thanks.

Not the 3-12×50, but the 4-16x50 Klassik/Precision Hunter.

Tunnels so badly that anything below 6x isn't really useable.

So little elevation travel that it's questionable if the dial is even worth having...

Good points:

Yet to lose zero (touch wood!)

Like the FFP P3 reticle, no illumination required. Much better vs. the A7/L7 type reticles which are very outdated and terrible in most situations.

Accepts a sunshade, which is vital IMHO

Side focus (not present on the 3-12x50)

In really low light, just pop a torch on and look for the eyes! :thumb: :stir: :norty:

Would I buy again?

No, for the price I paid 2nd hand, could have got 2 good secondhand Japanese scopes with better turrets and variable mag that does not tunnel, and side foucs down to 10m...

2-12x50 has almost become a standard among scope manufacturers. People like this spec as it covers most anything form low light to driven hunt.
Consequently there are quite a few contenders out there. All of them have illuminated SFP reticles.

As @caberslash has already pointed out the S&B Klassik tunnels badly as you wind down the mag. Also the FFP reticle becomes very heavy at high mag. Good for low light without illumination like in the old days, but a hinderance when shooting for precision at small targets. S&B scopes have always had a problem with back light, hence above remark on the need for a sunshade.
You can still put deer in the larder with them but they've had their time and there are better alternatives available.

In a parallel thread you've already mentioned a few possible candidates by Zeiss, Swaro, Meopta and Leica yourself. Maybe add GPO to the list.

I'd disregard the overpriced Eurotrash and look at the Japanese (specifically Light Optical Works) made scopes, whether they be sold under the Delta, Nightforce(Lightforce), Bushnell, Vortex or some other moniker.

Do some research and pick up a good deal secondhand, thank me later!

It depends on your budget, if the 12x is enough there are a few Zeiss HT 3-12x56 around and you really couldn’t do much better for a lightweight stalking scope

Yep. Love it: Bombproof S&B quality; ideal zoom range; reticle illumination excellent. Everything you’d need for UK deer stalking.
