Lovely animal.
... but hunting with your own rifle is priceless.
... in the big picture the additional £202 is peanuts but hunting with your own rifle is priceless.
Also, tell us more about that rather pretty rifle.
Lovely! Even more gorgeous now.Pending confirmation from the OP, I believe that the double rifle in post #41 is the H&H Royal. When you look at the prices paid for some of the pre-owned examples of Royals, I fully understand why £202 appears a storm in a teacup!
The PH usually charges for the use of his rifle. You may end up paying just as much or more than the airline will charge you and you don't get the satisfaction of using your own rifle. So, it's a simple question, why can't you use the PH rifle?
Is it illegal?
Just seems a simple solution to me.
Cheers
Richard
Outfitters/PHs/PHASA have yet to comment on this price hike in any volume. If they start to lose trade because folk do not fly to the Eastern Cape, that will change
I don't think so...this is Africa
It is irritating. Add it to the list...

Update from South African Air: they will now charge a firearm handling fee at check-in.
Within South Africa USD 30
Within Africa USD 60
International USD 100

If any fellow hunter charges that much for use of their rifle I would feel totally ripped off!The PH usually charges for the use of his rifle. You may end up paying just as much or more than the airline will charge you and you don't get the satisfaction of using your own rifle.
eish...That was post #1 in this thread Patrick
I have no problem with a charge its just the size of it that is unfair. For exsample when we travel to Windhoek all bags rifles ex., only get handled from one aircraft to another so no paperwork or extra effort involved but there will still be a £50 charge for that part of the journey.
